Geocaching would be much more useful in schools (and is used often, for better or for worse. There are down sides) than George simply because one act is illegal and the other tries hard not to be.

Check out the Travel Bug stuff. Not just geocaching but the travel bug part. Read some logs. View some pictures. And I know I'm being kinda douchey for pushing it when you're happy with your WG hobby but travel bugs are like WG on roids! They go world-wide, people race them, take pictures, write stories about them.

Before we made the move from Alberta to Ontario, I picked up a TB that was in a race to get to Halifax by a certain event date. We helped win it points by visiting geocaches and taking pictures of it and of course, for the massive mileage to get it closer to it's goal.

Even years after this bug met it's goal (It placed third!) and I still follow it's travels. It almost felt like my own TB. It's in the UK right now.

Again, not trying to be a jerk. I just really think if one likes WG then one would should really like travel bugs.

You're not being a jerky douche! I know all about the travel bugs - I thought I mentioned that on this thread but maybe it was another, I'll have to go back and look at my posts.

Someone DID try to get the school district (we only have one in my county) to get the kids into geocaching but there was no interest - only concerns about the kids' safety. Well, at least safety was the reason (EXCUSE) given. Laziness was the real reason it wasn't pursued. Most of the kids here don't appreciate where they live. All you hear is "there's nothing to do" from the locals, while tourists overtake the county every day! So sad...

And I know I also mentioned that I would be geocaching if I could but my physical health prevents it. Hopefully that will change soon...

So anyway, I totally agree with you that geocaching would be great for the students, but it's not going to happen. And actually, in a few years, we won't have ANY school district. Too many full-timers moving away and most of the people who move here are retirees or childless. People with children don't want to live here! (That's a fact, Jack!) Like I said... so sad!

LMFAO. I know the feeling... Oh, that just gave me a SUPER idea for a new thread. I'll PM you later - have to log off now - and ask your opinion about it.

And if I don't PM you in the next day or two - REMIND ME. That is, if you remember, lol!!!

It was obsolete by the time I read it, shortly after he wrote it. Sometimes there seems to be quite a lag between posting and your count increasing. I was going to make the same comment but I didn't! Are you reading my mind?

I found one of these bills in my change today. Apparently it took a year to get to me from Wisconsin. Maybe a snail had it for a while. 2006 $1 bill. I gather most of the hands that the bills pass through spend the bills without the holder bothering to go to the website and record the information. I only noticed this one because I read this thread. Although it is interesting, I don't think I will be taking it up as a hobby.

I know that when my physical health is better and I can spend more time outdoors I won't be as active with WG as I am now.

Now, if a George ends up in my hands, I keep it and enter it. Since I started playing this year I've stamped and entered over 250 bills into the system. Most have been in the last couple of months.

Right now I have 29 waiting to be stamped and entered. I think I'll do them tonight so the pile doesn't get any larger. I have never had this many at one time but my husband came home from a week-long trip today, spending cash each day at least once, and he saved all his Georges for me which is why I have so many. I didn't ask him to do it and I almost wish he hadn't! But he was sweet to save them because he was thinking of me!

I think I had 10 of my own that I obtained Thursday and he gave me 19. I wasn't in the mood to enter them (and I'm actually not "feeling it" now either, but I have to do it!) It will only take 10 minutes, 15 at the most.

One of the last bills I entered was one that was already marked. It took almost a year to travel within PA. I was the first to "hit" it. The guy who originally marked it has entered over 2 million bills. According to his profile and what another WG member has told me, he owns his own business and spends much of his day stamping and entering. I don't remember how many years he has been doing this, but I think that's obsessive.

It really doesn't take long to enter a bill, but just think of all the other things he could be doing with that time! Things that are more productive or more social (like HF! :2thumbsup: ) would be time better spent, IMO.

And while WG is free, you can become a "Friend of WG" and pay $7/month (I believe) to have a few extra perks like more features on your profile page. His profile is totally tricked out. No way I'm going to spend any money on WG other than the little bit I spent for stamps.

Who knows, even though that guy owns his own business, maybe he's limited in some way and WG actually IS the best way he's able to spend his free time at work. Whatever floats his boat, lol! Who am I to judge him?
