Was browsing for computer doodads and gadgets and came upon this marvel of modern technological engineering at Bestbuy.

Who can tell me what's wrong with this?

If you come across any such wonders that are puzzlers, lame or just downright laughable, post them here for us all to behold and marvel at the great minds that think these things up.

Well, I can tell you it probably goes to an older style TV...maybe some kind of adaptor to hook a computer up to it?

Ok, I'll do the reveal now......

It's an adapter for older style PC VGA video to s-video or Composite video for output to a TV.
Why does it have right and left audio connectors?
No audio signal is sent through the VGA port and it doesn't have any audio input connecter, yet they sell it as an "audio-video adapter".
    THERE IS NO FRIGGIN' AUDIO!!!

The red and white connectors are useless.

A marvel of modern engineering I tell ya', simply astounding.

I'm sure someone else has pointed it out, but a VGA cable shouldn't have any need for component audio cables.

Is it legal to sell this sort of thing? I mean, It's obviously a connector, but why the sound connectors?

Uhmmm... Maybe we should test it out and see if it plays mystical magical music... That would be a boon to mankind lol..

But seriously, shouldn't this sort of thing be illegal to sell? I mean it's not going to do what it says it can do? This was on Amazon wasn't it... Time for someone to buy it and earn a pile of money by suing them for selling a product that obviously wouldn't work.

And if the suit fails, simply make up your own and sell it? How hard to solder the wires together to make something that looks cool and does nothing.

Also, I dunno about anyone else's TV, but mine needs MALE connectors... Not Female... So that's the second fail...

Actually I found it on Bestbuy's site.

You can get audio through DVI and HDMI, if your hardware/drivers support it, but not VGA.

    Even worse I guess...

But still, the one thing that perplexes me is the female connectors for the TV... Mine needs male.....

Don't all TVs need male? That part is confusing. I am by no means an expert, but I know how to plug things in lol. (DVD players, PS3 etc) So... Explain that part maybe... Those look like female adapters....

No because the color of the connectors are for audio. All the different types of connectors have standardized color codes. On that page you linked it shows composite video connectors, red, green, blue; RGB
video is always yellow, audio white & red.

Upon further research I found it is supposed to be used for projectors that hook into PC's. Some models do piggy-back audio over the VGA out connector and split it to the audio connectors and you would most likely be using extension cables, thus the female connectors.

They do make a 15 pin svga plug /cable to red, green , blue , rca plugs to go to a t.v. set with the audio seprate . Most new t.v.s have a 15 pin svga connector on them . desert rat

I almost bought one of these...I wanted to hook up my laptop to the ancient CRT TV we have at work so I could show videos to my classes. Glad I didn't do it. Good catch, OP.

You need more than just an adapter, your video card/chipset has to also support TV-out so it can support the resolution for a TV. PC resolutions do not work on standard CRT TV's.
