http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antisa_Khvichava Antisa Khvichava, who claimed to be 132 years old, has died. This is, of course, controversial. There are currently 19 people alive who were born before 1900. The oldest was born in 1896.
I believe i read somewhere that Humans cannot live beyond 120 it is physically impossible, but i guess (and if you are rich enough) that in future the Human body can be modified to reach immortality...
Actually, if you go on the science book I had as a kid, that you had to take 200 minus your age, and that was supposedly the max number of times your heart could beat in a minute and you still live or something... So at 120... That would leave you with 80 beats a minute... No extreme exercise or fright allowed there.... So technically speaking, if someone got to 200... They would effectively be dead anyway? As it would then be 0 beats a min.... Of course, does this count artificial hearts? Hmmm.. That's an interesting question.. Do artificial hearts increase in rate from emotions as well as physical exercise? hmm... Gotta be a link to something around here: " Intensity The intensity of exercise refers to the amount of effort put into an exercise. Intensity is usually measured by assessing the heart rate during exercise. As a general rule, the intensity of exercise should not exceed certain limits. If monitoring heart rate use the simple equation - 200 minus your age (in years) to estimate the working heart rate you should remain under." So.. there you have it.. at 120 years old, your heart rate uptimally should remain under 80 beats a minute.. So says the exercise guru... Here's the link.. What school teaches this as "science?" It looks like some meaningless drivel proposed by a fitness guru. In Australia, no less, where January is hotter than July. I don't trust anything with numbers, personally. Especially if it comes from Australia.
And does that maths really work at the upper extreme? Several people have already lived longer than 120 years, and the average life-expectancy is increasing by three months every year. So someone born in, say, 1960 might expect to live 70 years, but someone born 40 years later in 2000 might expect to live 80 years, and somebody born in 2040 will expect to live 90 years, and so on. With progress in medical science, this rate will only increase: three months every year might become four months every year or more. Ultimately this rate will pass twelve months every year, and then we have the possibility of living 'forever'.
True enough, but that is only one site, there was a science book I had as a kid that also said the same thing. It had other awesome science type facts in it... Not sure why that particular fact stands out... LOL... Couldn't tell ya, but I know there are other sources though...
The REAL oldest person smoked a little bit, ate a fuckload of chocolate (mmmm, anti-oxidants) and exercised moderatly.
Who would that be? And yes, there are many people who have lived a long time and smoked and drank cocoa. (some natives of some cultures for example. The elders were said to be old, can't say how old, but from description to their 90s and 100s). Drinking green tea, exercising, eating right, all lead to living a longer life. Laughter definitely. And remember kids, stress kills... Try and keep yourself as stress free as possible. In terms of the life expectancy rate increasing, that is true, and we already have a population problem. However, have you seen the movie "The Event"? It was about over population and mother nature made a defense which made people off themselves. So... I suspect over population will eventually take care of itself one way or another...
My father is 91. He lives alone, does all his own cleaning, cooking, shopping etc. He also still drives a great big fuck off 4 wheel drive thing. His state of health is excellent. He had a cancer scare a couple of years ago, was operated on and hasn't looked back. I think the point is not how old someone can live to but the quality of life!
This is a good point. Life expectancy has risen steadily for the past few centuries because people genuinely WANT to be alive.. Let's face it, if you lived in the middle ages, would you really be looking for ways to extend your stay in what was that cesspool? Of course, if someone is independent and then they can't do anything anymore, they aren't going to be too enthusiastic about sticking around. Sounds like your father is living it up and loving it, that's the important thing Heck, he could go for another 100 years with that attitude lol. I had a great aunt that made it to 106. She still had all her faculties, and was able to live on her own (well, we always did shopping for her once a week) up until I guess she was over 100. So, I think you are onto something there.. As long as someone is happy, and has a zest for life, they can keep on going and going. :afro:
Not off the top of my head.. Were you looking for just any specific information or statistics? Or for a specific area? I can't seem to find anything besides life expectancy statistics: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_life_expectancy But you were looking for more statistics on how many actually made it that far right? I wouldn't even know where to start looking for something like that.. it would probably be something that you can really only look up locally. Anyone have any ideas? Besides public records and going through one by one? Maybe a census?
^ That is super cool! I live with my mother who is 92 years old...because circumstances beyond my control have consistently stopped me from obtaining and maintaining a job that would allow me to be able to move out. That being said, I also think fate has had a bit of role to play in that. At any rate, my mother is also in excellent physical health. She also drives, although I do NOT think she should...but the IDIOT doctor said she could get her license for 5 (FIVE!) more years and laws in this stupid state don't make a person in the 10 decade of their life take any kind of test other than an eye test at the time they renew their license. I've tried to talk to her about her driving, and she became quite angry and adamant saying the doctor wouldn't have allowed her to drive 5 more years if she wasn't able!!! (Mama always underestimates her bullying and intimidating skills. :2thumbsup: ) She is relatively deaf, and refuses to wear her hearing aides, saying she has heard all she needs to hear. She takes no medication but loads of vitamins every day. She has NEVER EVER done a single solitary thing she didn't want to do, and has for the most part of her long, long life been a self-UNaware person, thinking of herself first and foremost. Sorry...that is just the way it is. She LIKES to LOVES me being here with her...my being basically "stuck" here suits her quite nicely, and she has said any number of times that she is GLAD I'm here. (yay) I don't even know why I'm saying all of this, except to say that living stress free undoubtedly must be a major factor in living a long time. (So, I'm surprised I'm still here. )
Saw a French guy on tele this morning - it's his 100th birthday and he did what he does every day - went for a cycle ride with his team.
Yeah, I can relate... IDIOT doctor gave my grandmother permission to drive, even though her reflexes were crap, she was medicated to the MAX, and she couldn't really see well.. Well, guess what? She ran over and killed my dog.. I came home from school to see them loading my poor dog into the back of a pickup guts hanging out, he did survive that... But we had to put him down because of complications after Oh, and my parents never told me this until AFTER she was dead and in the ground.. Although I should have clued in, she never offered to pay for anything in her life, and she offered to pay for the dog's surgery... It's OK, I fixed her red wagon.. she was a racist, she is probably spinning in her grave that I have mixed up the blood line.... Sorry to rant.. Damn, it felt good though...
Don't encourage me.. I can go for hours lol... I can be considered a really opinionated person, and I have lots of them in me! Quick kick that soapbox out from under me! Do it! Do it now! :afro:
