Yet another case of the police acting like the gestapo and attacking a innocent person. Truly disgusting. Is police brutality on the rise, or are we just hearing about it more with the rise of social media? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tLvpr7V1aPw"]LAPD Beat and Tased College Student Outside Hollywood Club - YouTube
hi. where i from police set fire to many villages, they spit on us and steal my sisters goat. they take our water. we are prisoners. many wrong doings. i fight for cause. you my brother fight with me. thanks steve french
hard to say. the latter is definitely the case, but the former really can't be proven one way or the other.
This is true. But if I were a betting man I'd put my money on a decrease in actual police brutality. 30 years ago coppers could beat the shit out of kids all day long with not a worry one. If someone saw it happen all they had was their word, and a cops word in court is equal to a jury of 12. Today, they know that every phone has a camera, and the wrong move could land them in an investigation. Even if they don't act like it it's in the back of there mind, and will most definitely deter some brutality. I remember in that flick....Bowling for Columbine, Moore claimed that in the US, violent crime had been on a steady decline for years, however coverage of violent crime had gone up (insert dramatic percentage based statistic here).
I think you could say coverage and occurrence are on the rise due to things such as occupy, protests etc. There have been so many protests lately... and the pigs seem to think it's okay to use brute force. I went to a peaceful occupy protest and they had actually gotten out 7 MOUNTED police.. poor horses
I know who didn't appreciate my comment in the 'are you happy' thread now. This one is truly disgusting on the face of it. I'm not sure if this is on the rise or falling. Obviously they did not have cameraphones cctv and Youtube in the 50-60-70s etc.
Social media, the internet has just opened up new ways to communicate and share information. The powers that be do not like that at all. I think people in positions of power have always abused that power. Maybe more fighting in the streets, riots as of late. Also, if someone is personally victimized by law enforcement I am sure they will have a different view. Too many people think it can never happen to them.
I think that while it may have gone down a little, not lots, at least not in a while. What HAS happened is not just the sensationalist reporting on it, but the use of that to justify police brutality, and a general police-state mentality. Oh look, someone shot up a theatre, all 300 million americans better give up some more liberties, to save the kids..... I'd rather save my kid's liberties.
Well, police on horses is the same as conquistidors on horses, or calvalry in any other situation..... It's meant to be scary, and it shows not only their own fear of you, but their contempt for you and willingness to use extreme brutality. Even if they claim things are non-lethal, we all know that a charging horse could kill you without even meaning to. Then again, it's also just showboating...... You know, mounted imperial pigs oliceman:
Unfortunately, cops are not paid to think. They will do whatever they are told, including beating peaceful protestors who are exercising their constitutional rights. And that is really the scary part. If protestors here in the US were to conduct themselves as they do in Greece,Japan,Spain, etc ,I have no doubt their guns would be brought to bear. Hope this kid makes a bundle on this. I was thrown in jail over a can of unopened beer in a car that wasn't even mine. The other 5 in the car were let go. Cop had a hard-on for my dad --couldn't get to him, soooooooo. A weekend in jail does not compare what cops do to others. Just proves that they have the power to do whatever, although video and phones are exposing them more all the time.
I'm not sure if the 'powers that be' care one way or another. Also - they did turn the video over to internal affairs. They did not have to do that. If they ('the powers that be') were concerned I imagine they would just shut all social media down. Social media is a blessing and a curse. If this young man was beaten excessively then it is disgusting. If it was to restrain him and was just standard procedure - then social media/the internet can spread falsehoods and create a world that isn't real: Judge Jury Executioner. What makes me sit on the fence on this video is that: He wasn't hospitalised. There were far too many police on the scene. He might have been drunk and aggressive. We were not there. I agree that people in positions of power/control have always abused their position. I appreciate if somebody perceives they are being victimised by law enforcement - I'm sure their opinion is different.
I don't agree with any of this - but I'm adding rep points for making me laugh. "You know, mounted imperial pigs oliceman:" You created quite the image in my mind with this one.
A funny thing that happened on a separate occasion/protest. We were doing a tour, the mounted police were following (lol) Stopped at an area, one horse directly behind me. He kept nibbling at my bag and nudging me.. poor baby was fucking hungry.
Here, earlier in the year, unarmed Brazilian student on lsd stole packet of biscuits, tasered 14 times by sydney police. Cause of death 'unknown', question of positional asphyxia.
