Interesting. I've never heard of an Alderman. I wonder if it's a thing in Oz too.

This most of all. Going the political candidate route would just marginalize people, even if your intention is inclusion, because the first thing they'll ask you is what political party you belong to. You can't answer that question in any satisfactory way, either, since even being "independent" gives you a certain political cast. Besides, in my estimation at least, the Occupy movement isn't about conventional politics, left or right or center or whatever, it's about economic disparity and who is in control of (and ruining) our economy.

Yep, on top of that, you also must swear your oath of office 'under god'...
In a country where 9 out of 10 citizens continue to believe in God, to do otherwise is political fucking suicide.

BTW Moon man, thanks for reminding me we are completely fucked. :(

What? You do realize that the classic left/right distinction is all about who controls what in the economy, Right?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Left–right_politics

The terms "left" and "right" appeared during the French Revolution of 1789 when members of the National Assembly divided into supporters of the king to the president's right and supporters of the revolution to his left. One deputy, the Baron de Gauville explained, "We began to recognize each other: those who were loyal to religion and the king took up positions to the right of the chair so as to avoid the shouts, oaths, and indecencies that enjoyed free rein in the opposing camp." However the Right opposed the seating arrangement because they believed that deputies should support private or general interests but should not form factions or political parties. The contemporary press occasionally used the terms "left" and "right" to refer to the opposing sides.

H.R. 347 made that illegal. And thanks to the NDAA, anyone who violates that bill can be detained indefinitely as conspiring with terrorism...nifty huh?

It's a good thing that army has been used to play imperialist chess because history tells us thats good for creating an empire that never collapses.

I think the occupy movement, along with Wikileaks must prevail or we are all lost to the greedy megalomaniacs. They cannot take over, revolution (French style) whilst necessary, is not an option today, but perhaps they can make them pause and think.

I won't say any more, or I will become melancholy and depressed.
