I feel you on this. A similar experience happened to me two years ago. But it wasnt a random act of violence like what happened in your story.

Long story short, I ended up getting beaten unconcious by this dude and his brother. A friend of mine (lets call him Bob) was talking all this shit to this dude and his bro, and they came looking for him. But on their way, they found me, walking my moped up the street to Bobs house.
They stopped the car and asked me where Bob was, I said I didnt know. As soon as I finished the sentence I got hit with a huge right hook. It was like getting hit by a bus. I dropped my moped and hit the ground. Then I got stomped the fuck out. Like, I swear there must have been a dent in the ground where my body was. I didnt really get knocked out like how you see in the movies, where someone punches you and you just black out. I was getting kicked so many times in the ribs and torso area that I couldnt take in a breath. Every time I would try and breathe, a couple more kicks to my side would come through, I just couldnt breathe.
Everything just sorta faded and went black.

I came to some minutes later and my girlfriend at the time took me to the ER. I ended up having chest wall lacerations, bruised ribs, a broken nose and I had to get a fucking staple in my head. They sent me home with a script for vicodin. Shit was fucked up.
I got home and looked at myself in the mirror and my face was unrecognizable. Horribly swollen and bloody. The worst part was one of my teeth in the front got knocked a bit out of place and pushed back a little. I was pissed.

Honestly it took me a couple months to get over it. I was super paranoid most of the time and really hesitant about things. But I got over it, and looking back it just seems like one of those things people go through in life. It's like what Henry says in Goodfellas, "the way I saw it, everybody takes a beating sometime."

I'd hate to feel so powerless like that. If ambushed in the dark like that you'd definitely feel more powerless than what you are. If you don't mind feeling powerless, (i.e. if u're a gal) and if you're not embarrassed of having bruises, than the only bad thing about this is that you got a good scare!! Other than that, all temporary damage, I think.. I didn't read the entire post tho

I don't mean to sound like an ass-hole, u were unlucky, that shudn't happen to anyone who doesn't deserve it. My heart actually does go out to you

You should stakeout the area or retrace your footsteps but this time with a little personal protection (tec-9) and pray they try to jump you again. [IMG]

the key is beforehand. Be aware of your surroundings. If it's too dark walk a different way. or get a flashlight just be aware and you'll be safe if you see it you can always run.

yeah, but i was drunk as hell, which was good, as it numbed the pain really well. these two guys were shouting at a tramp outside a club, i'd run off for a piss and so wasn't with my friends, i told 'em to go easy on him as i was passing, they stopped shouting and i walked on, turned down a side street. didn't notice them following. got a couple of meters down the road and one of them ran after me grabbed me and slammed me against the wall, then i was hit in the stomach and doubled over, leaning against the wall with my hands over my head, while he kicked me repeatedly in the face, under my hands. the tramp saw what happened and came to find me later in the night, he was a nice guy, although pissed as hell.

i was seventeen at the time, and had just finished school, funny thing is, it was my end of school prize giving ceremony the next day, and i'd got given a prize for English, and had to go up to get it and shake the headmasters hand and be photographed, but i wasn't allowed to collect my prize because the headmaster didn't wanna be photographed with a kid with a golf ball sized lump on his forehead and a black eye.
