So I made my first set of "gauges" tonight. They were a lot of fun to make. I made them out of wood. I Know they are not too great but I am proud of myself since it was my first time making them. I just thought some people might enjoy something like this. They are not too fancy...but I like them. Hope you do too!

Sorry for the horrible quality picture. It was taken with my cell phone...and it does not show the jewelry that great but anyway...yeah..

What kind of wood are they? You gotta watch what kind of wood you use for plugs since some of them harbor harmful bacteria more than others depending on how porous they are.

What Delta said. My boyfriend has been making plugs for a couple years now, and there are very few woods that are safe for wearing in earlobes. Just because you may not get a reaction, (if you plan on selling these eventually), doesn't mean someone else wont. Take a look online for toxic woods online, see what other body jewellery companies are using etc. If something is stabilized, but doesn't tell you what it's been stabilized with try to stay away from it.

Things such as blood wood, olive wood, vera wood, ebony, osage orange wood, coconut, amboyna burl, narra wood, etc are all commonly used woods in the body jewellery world.

Take a look at this article on toxic woods and safety
