thanks. it was 2 1/2 years. 1 semester was pretty much wasted when i was originally just going for a second bachelor's degree, and then the master's program was a 2 year thing, for full time students anyway.
For the last 16 years I've lived off and on at my mom's house in North Jersey and never encountered a skunk. I was living elsewhere last year so it's possible they were around then, but this summer I've been seeing them everywhere. I frequently walk around aimlessly past midnight, as is my wont, and these days it's a rare night when I don't see at least one. I have no idea where they came from. At first I was a little sketched out, thinking that if I startled one or got too close I'd probably get sprayed, but I did some research and it seems that skunks only spray opponents as a last resort. Apparently they only have enough spray for 4-5 uses and it takes them about a week to replenish their supply, so they're reticent to use it except for when they absolutely have to.
I read the same thing after I saw the one while running and I've never met anyone that was actually sprayed by one. There's one that lives close to us too, but I never get to see it.
i haven't been sprayed myself, but my dog was once. awful. the worst thing was that he came in and puked skunk spray all over the living room carpet, and it took a few days to get rid of that smell.
i appreciate your confidence in me. i'm really not trying to say that you're likely to get sprayed, just that it really is an awful thing when it does happen.
I was on the front porch smoking a cigarette and a big one walked right in front of me, at first I thought it was a cat. Then it noticed me and we were a little scared of each other. Skunks can be good pets if you get them when they're young. You have to take out their stink glands or whatever.
I read that too and thought it was cool. I'd like a baby skunk pet or so I think, it would probably drive me crazy at night. John had a similar experience with a baby skunk while smoking in the backyard of the old townhouse. He was inviting the cat inside until he saw the white stripes.
YES!! Haha! I was just going to post this; I was up alone, drinking, at like 2 - 3am and leaning against the back door to smoke and it fucking came in right by my leg and I was like "pss pss pss" thinking it was a cat!! When I saw the stripes I went berzerk, it was in the house!! I scared it right back outside though.
I would like that too. Where's Andrew? Does anyone knows if he still lives? I asked him on Facebook if he was still alive, but I got no response.
