Hello. One of my friends told me that tripping on DXM is pretty cool, and after having done a bit of research I've decided I would like to try it. I have experimented with alcohol and marijuana but have never done anything with hallucinogenic effects before. I'm aware that I would have less bad health effects by trying one of the traditional psychedelic drugs (specifically, I've contemplated trying LSD) but I recently moved to a new area and don't know where to buy that so purchasing Robitussin gel pills just seems much easier to experiment with right now.

So here is my dilemma. I have been on Lexapro for the past month, taking one 20 mg tablet a day. This doesn't sound like much, but I am afraid of seratonin syndrome when taking the gel pills. However, I quit taking the Lexapro three days ago because overall it hasn't done much for me so I didn't refill the prescription. So my question is, is it safe to try DXM? I am 18 and weigh 110 pounds so I was thinking to start with 250-300 mgs. But I don't know if I should wait a week - or a month - before I try it so that the Lexapro is fully out of my system and I won't have to worry about seratonin syndrome.

So when should I be 'safe' to try it?

This is my first post on here, so thanks if you're reading this~

After you're off of lexapro for 2 weeks.

2 weeks is a good minimum time being off Lexapro before you should consider DXM because serotonin syndrome is not something to fuck with.

Also, be careful about how frequently you dose DXM if you decide you like it. I've posted a lot on here about my own undesirable long term mental effects from overuse of DXM. It sucks.

Also, for the record, you mentioned that the Lexapro hasn't been working... you are aware that SSRIs can take 4-6 weeks to fully take effect? Playing pharmacist is another thing I've been through and while I've been much better off without meds, just *stopping* isn't really a good idea. Talking to your doctor and working something out (as I'm assuming you're not being court ordered to take their pills) is the more responsible route.

    Thanks for the replies.

Regarding the Lexapro I was initially taking 10 mg a day but my doctor upped the dosage to 20 mg pills because she's didn't think it was working (I was told it was supposed to work after 7-10 days) and was told it might not be the right medicine for me. I was taking it because I was having problems adjusting to moving to a new city and new people and had been very unhappy - my dad's side of the family has a history of depression so my doctor suggested I try an anti-depressant. Now that I think of it I have probably taken it a little over one month, maybe two. Anyways I've been happier here lately and believe I am back on the right track with my friends and family and schoolwork. I don't think it is because of the Lexapro because in the past week or so I've forgotten to take it a couple times and there was no effect on my mood either way. I think it was myself, not the medicine, that made me realize I needed to get back on track (I dislike being on medications for any reason and was never much dedicated to taking it in the first place) Anyways I will talk to my doctor about it if something comes up.. thank you for the advice.

& I will definitely wait two or three weeks before trying DXM. Even if I like it I don't plan on doing it often - maybe once a month - but it just sounds like something I want to experiment with a couple times for recreational use.. I'm not dead-set on trying it, but in the case that I most likely will I don't want to put myself in any serious danger.

Thank you both for the info/advice :)
