I thought this was pretty interesting. And am going to inform people of this next time they try and say to me "I don't feel bad for eating animals of lesser intelligence" or some crap like that.
little baby piggies are so adorable https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lIULxyKbVio"]Really cute baby pigs - YouTube
The smallholding close to my home has a lot of pigs and each one truly has its own character. It is so obvious when watching a litter grow up. It's really weird though but of the last 3 litters that I have observed; every time, it has been the runt that was first to investigate outside of it's comfort zone. It is the most amazing thing to see this tiny wee thing dodging about between all the adults and escaping into the duck enclosure while the larger piglets are stilll running around behind their mother!
I knew all of this and since I don't eat them alive I also still have no problem eating them. Are you saying it is better to slay a cow because it is lower on the intelligence rankings? Doesn't every mammal (and most likely other tasty animals too) have feelings of love and pain. It seems kind of subjective in a wrong way to say whales and elephants are more worthy to our attention because they show their feelings in a for humans more recognizable way. I admit I am also more emotionally triggered if I see a traumatized elephant instead of a (possibly) traumatized rabbit but does that really mean because the rabbit is more stupid it deserves to be eaten sooner?
FERAL pig numbers have exploded across Queensland following two good seasons since 2010, with numbers now estimated to outweigh humans on Australia's mainland. Recent estimates have put wild pig numbers at 24 million, as compared to 21 million humans. http://www.thechronicle.com.au/news/feral-pigs-outnumber-humans/1588957/ Feral pigs plaguing New York http://www.nytimes.com/2012/03/12/nyregion/feral-pigs-plaguing-upstate-new-york.html?_r=0 The feral pig population nationwide is a staggering five million, with the animals present in 35 states. Texas, Florida, Alabama and California are among the states with the highest concentrations of pigs, which benefit from warm climates and year-round availability of food.
i always knew that bout pigs.they are very intelligent animals. actually i have always found it very funny when people call cops pigs, cos although they are saying it ta try an insult, but in actual fact they are giving the cops they call pigs a very big compliment,by calling them pigs.well thats humans for ya.theres more intelligence in a baby pigs little toe than in some humans brains.
I once fed a coupla farm pigs about 5 gallons of homemade beer that went bad... Man that big ol' sow wouldn't let the other pigs near the trough until she'd had her fill... I saw for myself where they got the saying " pig drunk" lol
They weren't babies and no, when she was finished greedily gobbling down her fill, they all had some and looked like they quite enjoyed it. Homemade beer is very rich in malt, other grains and sugars. They loved it! They all smiled like pigs do when they are satisfied. If you were stuck in a pen all day you probably would appreciate a little change of diet and a good buzz too.
What an individual considers food is dictated by the society they were raised in. As an american I think of pork as food, I currently live in the middle east and pork here is illegal and my wife is from Asia and eats food I wouldn't in good conscience feed to a pig.
Isn't that interesting, Grain? While covering a Sun Dance sow years ago, manners required I taste whatever was dished up to me. I did, found it so puzzling taste wise, I made the mistake of asking. Bark bark. Kind of happy to be out of news!
