Having been reading about all the current religious protests and killings across the muslim world, I came across this video. Its a little bit long winded, but it really made me think about things. I just thought I'd share it with you people and see what you think? https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=3Dy1Z8IEjIg
I dont think that was the point of the video really, I thought it was more making the point that if you slap the word 'Religion' on something, it suddenly becomes somehow sanctified.
This woman's voice annoyed me. But her point is exactly how I feel. Every single religion out there has been so warped into this set of rules...and not good rules either. If you don't live by the standards of these "religions" then you will be condemned to damnation. I was talking to my aunt recently about her passion for Catholicism. She is a firm believer in the anti-gay rights and all of the "standards" set by general Christianity. However, she believes in the psychic gift I have and the mysticism surrounding me. I asked her if she believed that made her "less Catholic." She told me no, I have a gift from God...a gift that God believes is taboo... As Ghandi once said, "I like your Christ. I do not like your Christians. They are so unlike your Christ."
This video would be 2x shorter if she stopped repeating 'please respect my religion' all the fucking time. All I could think of after 5 minutes was 'please SHUT THE FUCK UP'. What did it make you think about? It doesn't say anything groundbreaking. It just points out things that every logically thinking person should know himself.
The intention maybe right but it's mindless blabber to me. Why criticize a religion and then say "please respect my religion"? And what did it make you think about?
I believe I am a spiritual person but do not believe in any organized (or disorganized) religion. Religions cause wars and hate and division. I grew up Catholic but did not think that the church was following Christ's teachings and always wondered if he would have approved of all the rules that came about through the years. I certainly didn't.
it is not my wish to disrespect any belief any more then it disrespects other beliefs itself. that is a problem shared by christianity and islam, and almost no other beliefs at all.
I respect everyone's religion to the extent that they keep it to themselves. If your religion leads you to be so insecure that you can't stand it when somebody doesn't share it, then it isn't a very effective religion. You should give it up.
As I've posted elsewhere, the problem is chauvinism in religion. That is, My God is better than your God or My God is the only God or (worse) My God commands me to convert non-believers or (worst) My God commands me to kill non-believers. Religion is inherently linked to politics. Just look at some of the southern Republicans who said (with perfectly straight faces) I don't know if I can support Romney, he's a man of God but it isn't my God. Look at the divisiveness caused by attitudes to sex, which ultimately are control mechanisms used to regulate the behaviour of the adherants, mostly women in the case of most religions. Look at the sexism inherent in religions. These, and other things, are the reasons people don't respect other religions. I don't particularly care, to be blunt. No-one respects me, and I'm a Jedi.....
Please respect my religion did become obnoxious. People use the cover of religion to do what they want . Mostly its mind control . Churchs want your soul and money . desert rat
Yes it is long-winded, and the refrain "Please respect my religion" gets old, particularly because the narrator, D. Acharya, aka, D.M Murdock, doesn't respect my religion. She's made a career of attacking Christianity by misrepresenting its history and nature. She's a phony.
