Im 18 and am visitng amsterdam ina couple o days and was wondering what type of ID im gonna need for the bars/coffeeshops. Ive read about the ISIC (Internation Student ID card) Will this suffice, cause i dont want to carry around my passport.
I'm not too sure.. for us Dutchies it's obligated to either show our passport or driverslicence, since there have been to many frauds with studentcards. I'm not sure what the policy is for tourist and it also will depend on the individual coffeeshop as to how strict they are. They have a right to refuse you however, if you don't have the kind of ID they want, it happend to my friend last week, although I and a third friend did have the right kind.. we didn't want to leave her alone so we all had to go.. grrrr. Anyway.. if you want to be really sure just take your passport.. hope you have a good time.. have fun!
They will accept most if not all current government issued ID's that contain your picture. Like your drivers license, student ID,etc, etc.
when i went to a coffeshop they asked me for ID...i was carrying my passport and just showed it and no problemo!
Student ID's are too easy to fake. I could knock one up in minutes using Photoshop, infact I've done quite a few things with Photoshop, ''ahem''
Heheh.. you naughty, naughty man! A japanese friend of mine had a whole bunch of fake stuff as well .. basically just for fun because he was of legal age.. hehe.. japanese people are weird. Very pretty.. but weird
I just posted about what kind of ID to use and had a followup question. A s i said before im 18 and will have a ISIC and a drivers liscence, so i will be fine. I am however going wiht my 17 year old frined. he has a fake ID that is pretty good that says he is 21, which is how old his ISIC card will say he is. Do you think that we would have any problems getting into coffee shops wiht my 18 year odl drivers lcesne and studeng tard, and his id and ISIC card that says he is 21? If itll be a problem what do you suggest we do to get pot from the coffeeshops.
i was never asked for ID when i was in amsterdam. never even thought of it really... if your friend is 17 and still cant get in, go and buy the weed yourself and smoke elsewhere. i dunno...
you will probably be fine. they love the isic cards over in europe. and if you want to make sure, when you buy anything, YOU buy it, and your friend just kinda hangs in the background. it's not like they card you walking in the door, it's more of like they card when you buy from time to time.
No... not right.. they DO card you when you walk in.. although that depends from place to place. There have been several threads here wherein we discussed the ethics of minors going into coffeeshops (with the risk of them having to close because of minors being there) and I think a lot pretty much agree that it's not a very ok thing to do.. here in Holland we are so liberal that you can legally buy weed, but there are limits.. how far are you pushing it if you not even want to obey to a few simple rules? It's as easy as that.. if a minor is found in a coffeeshop buy the authorities, they have a very good chance of problems. I mean.. in the end it's up to you ofcourse, but just think of this.. just in my humble opinion ofcourse etc etc
well i mean you live there and all so i'm sure you know stuff, but in my experiences there, i was only carded once (and i look like i'm 12) and it was when i was buying something. walking in was no problem - there aren't bouncers checking id like there are in the us, unless there is a totally different side of amsterdam that i just completely missed
Hm.. probably really depends on the coffeeshop and your luck I guess.. when were you here for the last time? They didn't go all nazi on ID untill a year ago or sth.. I think the law has become more strict or something.. from this Januari everyone has to carry ID with them ALL THE TIME... can you imagine? There is a huge fine if you don't have correct ID on you.. *sigh*.. it's really becoming a police state here as well.. Ah well.. as long as the coffeeshop stay legal So don't push it, you minors!
I'm just curious... How is a 17 year old travelling outside of the US without a parent or guardian with them? I think it's illegal for anyone under tha age of 18 to travel into or out of the USA without a guardian present. Does your 17 year old friend have a valid US passport? And do they have permission from their legal guardian?
i went in the summer, so only a few months ago - crazy id checkers, that's sad. hopefully they won't ruin the vibe though
hey brotha- even though things may have been a bit lax for awhile, control is really beefing up it's watch on coffeeshops, especially the ones you will be visiting in the center..... and if your friend thinks he's slick and cool (and of course, i can't imagine how a 17 year old will be crossing the border, how did he get his passport??) and wants to do it, fine. but like velvet mentioned, it isn't ethical at all... these places offer you a safe place to relax and sm0oke, and the last thing people want to experience is someone getting arrested and their favorite coffeeshope being fined, what is it, like 10,000 euros now? seriously, even though it is quite cold at the moment, it is very possible for you to buy the ganja and to go somewhere else and smoke (park, some cafe's allow it, etc)... less disrespectful to the patrons and the establishment...
