Please keep in mind that I'm not really into politics as you read this.

A few weeks ago my Girlfriend's Uncle posted something about the two party system and it got me thinking. Why do we have a two party system? If we live in a democracy, then why are our options so limited? Why aren't there other "major" parties? Why are these small parties unable to attend and partake in events that Republicans and Democrats can? Like the Debates? Why don't we have more options? Why aren't other voices being heard?

Because it's all a dog and pony show. Voting only makes people think they have a choice... a say in their government. In reality an election can be over thrown and the global elite will put in the guy they want.

Democracy is a joke. There is no Democracy and you have no choice... at least not a real one. This is the way the people in control want it, and as long as people are complacent and content to vote for corporate stooges like Obama and Mitt Romney, nothing will ever change. You will just continue to lose more of your rights and freedoms as the country slips further into the abyss. Frankly, if you vote for these people then you deserve what is coming. Sorry, but that is how I feel.

The main reason there is such an emphasis on the two-party system is that it makes it easier to control the debate and political discourse of the country. It's easy to control people when you polarize them, which requires having two major "sides" which people only think are different, until you peel away the veneer and realize they are both very much the same if not identical.

This is not a democracy, it's a representative republic. Just ask any republican. That's why we have an electoral college that decides the president. And if that doesn't make the cons happy, they get the Supreme Court to anoint a con POTUS.
