That'ts the title of this piece. It's something I put together two years ago. It represents me and the headaches I was dealing with at that time. It's made from found objects which I pulled from the steel dumpsters where I work. I didn't set out to make something which represented me and my discomfort, but at some point during the selection and arrangement of the objects I had found, that's what it turned into. My goal was to keep the original size and shape of each of the objects I was working with. I also wanted to keep each object visually separate from the others while still making them all one new object. To do that, I welded everything from the back of the piece. The round slugs were welded through holes which I drilled into the arc. I wanted to make this a wall hanging, but it's small size ( 6 1/2" x 5 1/2" ) meant that framing it was essential. To do that, I welded a tab to the back of the piece so I could float it in a shadow box frame. After welding the tab in place, I cut a piece of 1/16" sheet metal that would serve as the back of the frame. In that piece of sheet metal I cut a slot to slip the tab through. I then welded it in place. After that I masked and painted everything. Here is the finished. Product with a couple of progress pics as well. I didn't want to include the pic with the glass in the frame because I just couldn't shoot it without picking up reflections, but threw it in there anyway because you can still see that it looks pretty good once you get the glass in there.
That is a great, professional looking piece. Can see the representation of having headaches well. Very cool ;-)
Thanks for the responses. I wish the juror of the show I entered it in that year would have felt the same way. NOT ACCEPTED was the box that was checked on my notification card that year. That's usually the case when enter sculpture like this. It hangs in my living room now. I think it looks good there.
