Is makeup looked down upon?

Before I start, I'm gonna say that I love love LOVE dressing up. I don't do it for school but, on my own free time, I do. Have any of you heard of Michael James on YouTube? His makeup tutorials are gorgeous. I went to CVS and got whatever I thought looked pretty ^w^

I love to dress up, basically. Oh, and cosplays and costumes for anime and other characters. I don't do it as often though, but I've been to Anime Boston twice. Which means I use wigs.

Synthetic, not human hair. I'm not a fan of those but, to each their own.

I was just curious, since not everybody likes everything, on this general website, what are your opinions on the use of makeup and synthetic wigs? Keep in mind I have no desire to be with anyone (romantically), and I am purely doing this for my own self. :B Haha

    So, thoughts? Opinions?

It sounds to me like you're using your own body as a canvas, as a means to express your creativity. I can't see anything but good coming from that. Having said that, I'm not a fan of women who feel they need make-up, and I'm not a big fan of the way a lot of women (or men for that matter) look with heavy make-up (I'm not talking theatrical make-up here, which is what I think you're kind of describing). I don't like the idea of hiding perceived flaws, when those "flaws" are socially dictated by transient notions of beauty. If you told me that you thought it was fun to go out clubbing with kabuki make-up on, I'd say go for it. If you told me that you put a millimeter of foundation on every morning because you have a few freckles or acne scars that make you feel ugly, that would make me feel sad. I personally find women without make-up more attractive, but I cannot deny that I can enjoy and admire theatrical make-up.

Thank you! Oh hell no, I don't feel like I NEED make up, I do it just for fun! :3 I like putting stickers on my face and even clown makeup as a joke with supplies from iParty >XD

But yeah, I'm doin' it for nobody but myself :3 I actually saw a tutorial on how to do rainbow lips. I just need the correct eyeshadow and I'm good to go :D

    Thanks all!

I just searched it and rainbow lips look very cool. I used to do stuff kinda like that all the time when I was younger. Enjoy yourself and have fun!

    This is a personal question....

I PERSONALLY am not a fan of standard, going-to-work medium makeup, or even very subtle makeup. Wearing none is more practical, less toxic, looks just as good, and builds/shows confidence. HOWEVER, slightly overdone or intentionally obvious makeup, if tasteful, can be quite striking.

Make up to me is like paint on a canvas even though I personally don't wear a lot I still think it is a form of art c: If you like it wear it!

I think you should do whatever pleases you - it doesn't matter what other people think :)

I have discovered that a tinted moisturizer, tinted lip balm and a curl of the lashes does my super sun sensitive skin a world of good and looks just enough like I spent serious time on my "face" to fly at the spa where I'm working these days.

So, less cancer risk and the contract-client is happy.
