...so, I'm standing in the kitchen, punching numbers into the microwave and it won't work. I start to freak out and keep putting numbers in. I'm starting to get vocal about this...

then realized the microwave door wasn't closed.

Yeah, the microwave will not work unless you shut the door.

And don't mistakenly put your tin foil hats in there either...

lol, Fair. I remember the first microwave my parents had. They went out of town and the first thing I did was melt the top of the microwave by reheating a fast food sandwich that had foil in the wrapper. circa 1980

I started a small fire in the microwave once by microwaving a little prepackaged cake that came in a plastic package.

I've noticed most plastic is microwavable now...how far plastic has come since my childhood!

I thought all metal sparked in the microwave but I am told that if you have a small amount in comparison to a large amount of food, then it won't.

I'm not brave enough to test that.

I never stare into a microwave. Even though I know you would have to stand there for 50 years for anything to happen. Still don't want my brain microwaved : /

Mine blew up recently : / - the bottom was chipped exposing the metal : /

Mine has a large portion of the coating on the bottom missing and the exposed metal is rusted. Works like a charm. It's been that way for over 5 years.

As a kid I had a run in with a microwave... Resulted in a 7 year old me in trouble and 2 fireengines  (wasn't that bad, but it was procedure apparently)

Oh, good! Mine has a small spot exposed in the bottom and I didn't want it blowing up like OdonII's.

I leave the door open on mine all the time because the exhaust fan doesn't do much to keep it dry in there after cooking.

Perhaps it's just not creating an arc (I've read a wiki page which makes me an expert).
The one I'm using now has a metallic interior!
I really don't know why mine gave up the ghost : / It was only about £25 brand new, so...
