Anyone out there know Orange Goblin? I just got their new album "Eulogy For The Damned" and it is badass.Right now I believe they are the best metal band on the planet.
I was really into them a few years ago. Saw them live and listened to all their albums, I prefer the early more rocking stuff until Coup de grace. I would love to see them live again cause I have fond memories of how they got the whole crowd grooving but frankly the sound of their later albums do not really interest me. There are so many louder stoner bands but not so many great albums as The big black or Time travellin blues (in my humble opinion of course).
Well I'm a new convert so I don't know how much better their earlier stuff is...All I know is this is low-slung balls out rock n' roll and it sounds great...And also not so juvenile as so much contemporary metal seems to be.
I think it is also because I kinda started to knew them as a rock band and they have indeed a more metal sound now, albeit a good developed sound nothing too original. A lot of stoner rock bands that pick up the pace and get a bit heavier end up with a similar style. Now that I think of it I will post some in the stoner metal thread!
I did loose the focus on similar stuff as Orange Goblin at some point but there are some  I just dig that groovy guitar stuff the best when it apparently leans a bit more to the rock than the metal. Mother mars seems to be really doing what I love in that genre. It makes me intensely happy music like that is being made (after all, it gets put away often as sounding retro...)
