Killer Elite Movie Blurb by Shale September 24, 2011 This was my second movie that opened this week to see. I had been watching the trailers for some time and it looked like a good action flick and had three heavy-weight actors; Jason Stratham, Clive Owen and Robert DeNiro. It claims to be based on a true story and involves former British SAS black ops agents doing wrongful killings in Oman. The sheik wants to avenge his three sons that were killed and hires a mercenary named Hunter (DeNiro) to track them down and kill them. When he can't deliver the Sheik kidnaps him in order to force his protégé Danny (Stratham) to get confessions from the killers and then off them for him. It's an honor thing the Sheik needs before he dies. Hunter & Danny, Like Father & Son Danny gets a team together and they go about sniffing out and killing two of the former SAS agents. Altho they make it look like accidental deaths, another former SAS agent, Spike (Owen) who is working with a clandestine group of "feather men" gets suspicious. There are intrigues, set-ups, killers coming from all corners and basically a good action flick that is not so over-the-top as was Salt or Colombiana. The action and fight scenes look credible and are well done. Well, except for the scene seen in the trailers where Danny is tied to a chair under Spike's gun. And while so tied up, engages in a 3-way kick-fight with armed assassins and escapes. But overall I found it refreshingly toned down as with one mano-a-mano between Spike and Danny that showed them equally matched in skill - both giving and receiving blows that would floor the average bar brawler. I enjoyed this movie. It was quite entertaining.
I actually really enjoyed this film. It was nice to see Robert de Nero do an action movie after so many years. I thought it was good to finally see him do something more than just talk with a bunch of close-ups. It's a shame the movie didn't do that well, but I would glady buy it on DVD. Great movie. It's actually a movie that I don't mind seeing Statham in...Even though it's more of the same with him all the time.
