avoid at all costs. moenygrubbers that complain when someone doesn't bring in money with them, who bitch about people 'contentedly suckling at the teat of babylon' while content to sit back and pull in foodstamps and disability. Cannot agree on one way of doing things, no infrastructure ever gets built (for example, as of the time of writing this, they haven't agreed on how to make hot water for FIVE MONTHS) Ziggy is the 'old man' dying of pancreatic cancer, won't file to trust the land over to his son (or anyone else) so that when he dies (which looks like tomorrow) the bank can't seize it. Lilly is an asanine moronic exrainbow (I think she got thrown out) who's argumentative, angsty, wangsty, pissy, bitchy and wants everythign 'her way' while preaching 'peace love and tolerance' yeah.. if only you stfu and agree with her. Rod is a burnt out exmilitary who used to live with the amish, pretty good guy, but he's had it with the place. River is a decent sort, doesn't cause trouble, and tries his best to bring along a smile and a decent day to anyone he meets. I'll be sad to not see him again. A truly good person, but stuck here because his ptsd won't let him interact with the public much. Ryan, Ziggy's son, here to take care of his dad, his dad apparently is too busy being an argumentative asshat to care that ryan's here, instead using every chance to bait him into a fight that the rest of us have to listen to. He doesn't like it 'out there' but really would flourish a hell of a lot more than he would here. these people care more about 'green energy' (money) trying to cheap their way out of every situation, accruing piles of junk they'll deal with 'someday', collecting stray dogs, that're spending too much time either running around yipping or hanging around trying to get into the chicken coop for scraps. (I'm surprised they havent' made a go at the chickens yet) Most everyone here wants to sit around, drum and smoke, calling it a 'laid back lifestyle'... yeah, laid back until someone realizes there's been nothing planeted in teh gardens (or that what's there isn't growing) or there's nto enough wood for this cold snap.. or or or... and instead of pulling together to get shit done, they all kick back 'oh well, my back's hurt' or some other reason... look, rule one.. if you're going to have unhealthy community members, make sure they actually have something to offer. I crash landed here because of being more or less homeless, and for the first 3 days, it was all good. soon as I started to share my knowledge, (part of the reason I was accepted here) nobody wanted to listen.. because apparently knowing 'how' to do something means that absolves anyone else for knowing how, or learning how, or bettering themselves. I refused to be the little red hen, and it's just as well I'm moving to texas (and leaving here tomorrow morning). but if you value your life, your sanity and don't want to get trapped up here with this little wad of hardscrabble pretenders who talk shit about love and kindness but cant' keep form bitching each other out or pissing on each other's boundaries daily, stay away. seriously. Stay away. (this assumes they make it through the winter, which I don't see happening.)
Damn. Too bad they're wasting their time. I'll bet MOST communes have this kind of trouble and I remember reading about some of them spinning out of control back in the 60s-70s.
I know there's one on the Oregon coast that has been going since at least the 70s. They ran a roofing company and had a store in town. Don't remember the name--I can't remember my own, occasionally. But it is/was(?) very successful. I think they are close to Florence,Oregon.
It always takes workers and not one red hen. I happen to be a red hen and i won't have lazy people here UNLESS they have an income and pay for my services which still isn't what i want. I hate being around lazy people. They just plain suck the energy from me or workers. Back when we had communes in the 60's it was the places that were tough to live in yr round that weeded out the slackers.
Thats why i live around the amish and mennonites who are very hard workers and learn to be from day one.. Yepper no lazy slouches around here..
I love the amish and mennonite work ethic. Don't think there's too many people I'd rather have as neighbors, either.
