Ive gone to the ocala gathering the past 2 years. this year would be my 3rd. my first year i went there i had no idea what i was doing and was going for the experience. got there in the middle of the night and walked about 200 yards in, past a-camp, and set up camp. BIG MISTAKE!!!!! got my tent pissed on and our camp ransacked with the culprits enjoying our food and water when we came back. we were making our way back to camp from a day at main circle and came upon a terrific seen of complete drunken strangers burning our fire wood and eating our food without our knowledge. i will never deal with front gate again and refuse to camp anywhere near them!!! last year i went str8 to back gate and was chased down by a-camp. i really didnt want to deal with them that year. needless to say they tried to search us until i gave them a 6 pack of beer and they left us alone.

NOW i like to have a beer or two when im socializing. I am not a raging alcoholic. i can handle my alcohol and so can my "yuppie" friends. We drink responsibly. We are not violent alcoholics and i refuse to camp near people that will endanger me and my friends. all we want to do is enjoy a beer after spending all night drumming at main circle. I guess my camp would be one of the "DK's" u were referring to. I assure u that I will not stand for these searches, I will still bring my beer in, and i GAURANTEE you that there will be no violence from any one in my camp. You CAN NOT JUDGE everyone that has an alcoholic beverage by how A-Camp acts.

By the way last year was much more pleasant at back gate. There were no complaints from neighbors. We had some beautiful people come visit us and we shared what we had with them. My hands were sore from drumming at main circle for days afterwards.

I hope I can have the same amazing experience this year.

Also u advise everyone thats being stopped by the cops not to consent to any searches...why are u forcing people to be searched by a bunch of alcoholic hooligans. if you are trying to avoid certain things entering the gather u shouldnt put the addicts to run ur security. they are easily bribed by alcohol or drugs. put someone respectable up there if your going to try do that. i can assure you that any "newbie" driving in is not going to stop for some dirty homeless looking person asking to look in their bags. no thank you. food for thought.

Sorry the agreement was not accepted. The new plan is simple exclusion, there will be no a-camp this year and no excessive drinking camp or camps that allow violence

That sounds fantastic. Great news! I am sure this will lead to a much more peaceful and loving atmosphere. =) I would like to thank you and the rest of of the Florida family for doing this.

.......This confirms what I've sort of heard, that rainbow is a fucking disaster, in many ways.....

The fact that you'd search for alcohol, even while understanding that it will be everywhere, instead of controling BEHAVIOR regardless of chemical use, shows that you're just the same as any other "government" :D

Two things, first the searches for alcohol were wanted by Front Gate and put the proposed agreement as a concession to them.

Second that is not what's happening this year, instead those camps and kitchen where trouble has been coming from are being excluded including, but not limited to Front Gate. Drinking is not being stopped, just uncontrolled drinking that is leading to violence and harassment.

i believe thats the best way to go about things Barry. Im sure A-camp wanted the searches because they would confiscate the alcohol... which means more for them. Like i said in my previous post, a six pack of beer was all we needed to get rid of them.

What would you recommend to do if there are run ins with a-campers that refuse to respect this decision?

Everything will start and end with councils and shanti sena, on the ground, but there will be help for them from external stakeholders (in Green), should they need it. That is as far as I am willing to go, but I expect to be there, at the front, when it come down, regardless of what "it" is!

When you say excluded, do you mean they're not going to be present/allowed to exist, or that you're not going to be friendly with them?

didnt really see any shanti sena last year. year before that i did. i had to help them out cause someone from a-camp ate a poisonous mushroom he found on the ground. he thought it was going to make him hallucinate. had to e-vac him out of there. hope to see more of a presence from shanti sena. especially at front gate.

The will be a significant shanti sena presence at welcome home. There will also be enough people for a council at the front. Those who identify as gaters, a-camp, front gate and other similar camps will not be allowed to set up this year in Ocala, they are being excluded this year because of the violence that has been coming from those camps. If individuals who formally lived in those camps wish to stay, they may, but conditionally based on behavior, but the camps themselves will not be allowed to set up. Shanti sena will be backed up with pholks in green who carry guns and badges (we don't need no stinkin' badges!) who will be called in when a chance of violence is present. Sorry it has come to this but it has!

whatever it takes. ocala is the only gathering ive been too and seems like it has the worse rap. i think this is the right step even if it means an increased presence by "the pholks in green". i think folks can appreciate the fact that there will be no front gate gauntlet.
