Most of the discussion around psychedelic medicine at the end of life has centered on psilocybin and LSD for reasons obvious to anyone with experience with these medicines. Psilocybin and LSD are currently being studied in terminal care and underground therapists are assisting people with a variety of chemicals and botanicals. Classic psychedelic medicines and some of the RCs clearly have a role in end of life care, both in addressing problems and in realizing the best possible life in the process of dying.

I’ve been thinking that MDMA would be a perfect medicine for people at the end of life – and for their loved ones. Ideally, couples would take it together in the early days of the cancer journey (or other progressive disease). Something like a serious cancer is just huge in people’s lives – imagine having the beauty and insight of MDMA to help in processing radically changed realities. Shortly after learning terminal prognosis would be another good time.

Ensuring that I had access to psyches as I’m aging and coming closer to death is one of the things that brings me back to this scene. Now that I have a good understanding of the effects of MDMA, I’m thinking that if I get a fatal cancer or am in a similar situation, MDMA and LSD will be part of the experience for me.

What do you see as possible benefits or outcomes of using psychedelics in the last months or days of life?

What RCs do you think would be most appropriate during the process of dying – and why?

What do you think about including loved ones in psychedelic or MDMA therapy at the end of life?

    Thanks!
