its pretty ridiculous that these oil spills still happen, its like, its becoming a common thing, andi just dont get it. what the hell is the cause? i feel like there are just as many oil spills as there are plane crashes. there has got to be something to do to keep the ships safer from spills. i know they have the double hull thing, but arnt a lot of ships out there still using the flimsy older ships. this seems like it should be a problem thats easy to solve, but hardly any steps have been taken to solve it

I lived on Unalaska Island in the town of Unalaska. This has been in the top of the news since it happened up here. Unalaska Island really is at the edge of the earth and has some intense weather making the containment of the oil difficult.

An interesting fact is this vessel was not an oil tanker, but a freighter carrying soybeans. The oil in question was the fuel to power the ship. I wonder what those soybeans were going to be used for...tofu? So even tofu can be devasting to the environment.

Though I agree with Greenpeace's goals and message I don't always agree with their doom and gloom reporting of the facts. This was made out to be another evil oil industry disaster when in fact the vessel was a bulk freighter carrying soybeans.

i don't know much about oil spills, but I think the problems are usually more complicated than a simple leak.
