lol Glen this reminds me of something my 7th grade English teacher told our class.. "Cannabis will not be legalized in the United States in your lifetime" I can't remember why the heck he was talking about it in the first place but it was a major bummer
I'll jump in and congratulate all the mature people in Colorado and Washington that had the common sense to see beyond the Governments hype and propaganda and legalize. Mass legalized for medical use as well..Peace..DD
Put a Rasta as Pres and every LGBT right that's ever been fought for would go out the window in a puff of smoke.
Hear in my state of Arizona we , the voters , passed a bill legalizeing medical pot , but the gov. fought it , and now the state atg. is fighing it . I hope CO is more open to the rites of its citizens . desert rat p.s. you missed the other story on that ch 9 web site , a guy putting a dildo on a saber saw and cutting this lady http://www.9news.com/news/article/111490/337/Woman-injured-in-sex-toy-mishap?odyssey=obinsite
Well, when a majority of your people turn out to say that they want their weed, and you depend on that majority for your job..... You can't step TOO fast in case something slides back, and to avoid pissing off the minority who liked your hard-assed stand, but you still HAVE to do your job, and you HAVE to kiss the ass of the majority. Which spells great things for federal politics. Hopefully next presedential election cycle, candidates will be forced to make a big issue, one way or the other, out of drugs. And state officials and senators will have to start making a stand for or against, now that people are seeing this is on the table for discussion and change.
One thing that has not been mentioned here is that there will not be any stores selling marijuana until at least 2014. but possession of up to an ounce and growing of up to 6 plants will be legal in the next thirty days by state law only.
Also one good thing for Fort Collins medical marijuana dispensaries will be once again allowed in city limits.
I live on the Oregon side of the WA/OR border. Does anyone know what kind of places will sell cannabis to the public? I can't imagine it's at any location. I'd like to go to Washington again sometime and check things out. What day will this law come into affect? Will everyone with marijuana possession charges get them dropped?
I don't think the law says anything about retroactive immunity. The idea there would be that "you broke the law, no matter how fucking stupid a law it was". Of course, when pot is legal everywhere, pot charges won't mean anything. They won't actually sell for quite a while, and it's illegal to acquire it from any other source in wa, although I'm not sure if there will be a requirement for a tax stamp or something. Possession MAY be legal in 30 days when the bill gets signed, or it may take a while. CO will be legal in 30 days, though, even without anywhere to buy it yet.
I think RooRshack answered well, I just want to add something: (I only know this from a Colorado perspective, but I'm going to assume this should be along the same lines--I'd double check) I wouldn't expect Washington to have anything until at least January 2013. The rule should be that you don't have to be a resident. Once you enter the state, you are under the states rules and are allowed to purchase and possesses a good amount of pot (In Colorado it's one Ounce, I don't know about Washingtons) You should be able to have pot in Washington or Colorado after December 6th, 2012 (Happy Christmas ) I'm curious to see how the borders work. It may be almost impossible to take any pot back with you to Oregon from Washington if they enforce the border well. No matter how well the Legal states work, I would bet anything there is going to be some controversy with bordering states. Hope that helps! In summary, I wouldn't bothering visiting Washington for a couple of months. Aside from some "celebrations" here in Colorado, nothing has changed yet, everyone is just talking about it with great enthusiasm
WA won't have anything probably until 2014. The state alcohol control board(I think it's them doing it) has until December 2013 to come up with a plan for how to implement sale and taxation. However, as of December this year, marijuana up to an ounce will be fully legal in the state of Washington.
They don't call us the Mile High state for nothing. I am happy to live in Colorado, but I am skeptical you will ever see a weed shop until it is legal on a federal level.
