Here is my take on your so called pot heads. Personally I would love to be able to come home after work and smoke a fat one. Just like some people do when they get home from work and enjoy a beer or two. But for me my place of employment does random piss testing so if I wish to keep my job I have to stay away. Just because some of us wish for it to be legal doesn't mean we are all pot heads. I enjoyed those days back when I was a teenager.

Wrong. Moderate to heavy drinking does FAR more damage physiologically, psychologically, emotionally and financially than smoking any amount of weed does.

So considering the higher incidence of health problems related to drinking, it really is obvious to anyone who cares to actually look that alcohol is a far greater drain on society than marijuana.

But, Why is this discussion even taking place?
It is still 2012 isn't it? There are still volumes and volumes of research available for public scrutiny isn't there?
Google still works doesn't it? Hold on, I'll check............................
    Yup, Google still works.
We didn't slip through some time vortex into the 1950's or something did we?
These questions and comments from our newest trolls makes wonder.

just because alcohol is worse than weed doesn't necessarily mean that someone can't drink alcohol and still contribute to society.

I hope not! As a daily smoker myself, I see the my self as a revolutionary against the norms of our society. I use the bud to free myself from the materialism of society and focus on my music and art. Am I the docile, hard working factory prawn that my government wants me to be? No and most potheads aren't.

    Did I say that?
    No, I don't think I did.
Nope, didn't say that at all. What I did say is there are greater health issues related to alcohol abuse, thereby creating a bigger drain on societal resources.
    Yup, that's what I said.

I hate having to explain what is pretty obvious.

    Above is the specific statement that I was saying is wrong;

Didn't say anything anywhere about whether a drinker or weed smoker is or isn't good for society, just the relative harm each substance produces.
But in all fairness, somebody who has any type of substance abuse issue will take more than the give ultimately.
But alcohol is more damaging overall than weed.

I just pointed out the FACT that alcohol has far greater health risks/costs associated with it than marijuana use.

To put it simply, if you took a daily abusive drinker and a daily abusive pot smoker and accounted for other variables, over time the alcohol drinker will suffer more physiological harm from their habit then the pot smoker, thereby requiring more medical attention and using more resources.
Doesn't matter one bit if the person themselves is a great boon to society or a slug, their drug choice alone will dictate a greater personal need of societal resources in the long run.

So I don't really know where/how you got this from it.

well, when you originally made the "wrong" statement, you had quoted the entire post, not just the statement you were apparently replying to. the other half of the quoted post stated that many, but not all drinkers were good for society. so that's where/how i got it.

i still don't think the statement that you were saying was wrong was, in fact, wrong. i do think that any given pothead may or may not take more from society than he puts back in. i do, of course, agree that alcohol is more damaging, i just don't think the person you were disputing claimed otherwise.

Please note the permanent changes to the brain.
Now take documents, shred finely, add choice of tobacco, mix thoroughly. Now place in pipe and smoke! Enjoy.

You're welcome wolf. Just a little joke for the "go havers" at the end. No hard feelings to the rest of you. To each his own and all that, I just thought there might be silent smokin' sufferers out there that would not piece it together due to the subtle nature of the problems and the immediate lift when having a smoke. What I mean is the acute lift will mask the long term chronic low. The negativity of it will often go unnoticed until the substance has been removed for several weeks and miraculously a happy balanced person emerges.

    ...
If only it were that simple...There's a lot more to being a happy balanced person than just being sober... In our post-modern society it's seems to be becoming a rare thing...

...some of the most balanced and happy people I know are pot-heads!...:D

That there could be permanent changes in the brain is speculative according to the study in the first link, and the last link has an article ( among many others that are not relevant to the discussion BTW) that suggest changes in the brain are reversible. Go figure...
The article in the second link appears to be non-peer reviewed material.

Redberry, think about this quote from Louis Armstrong, he was what is considered a 'chronic' pot smoker (like myself) it may give you some insight that might be helpful in your counseling.

"It makes you feel good, man, makes you forget all the bad things that happen to a Negro. It makes you feel wanted, and when you're with another tea smoker, it makes you feel a special kinship."
