Well, sure. 220+ years resulted in 27 amendments, two of which cancel each other out, and the others all improved things? Sure, chuck out old Madison and Jefferson. We can all listen to brilliant political philosophers like Rush Limbaugh and Michael Moore instead.
Umm...ever heard of slavery? :toetap05: Also, the founding fathers gave women pretty close to zero rights, and the penalty for treason at that time was death. Treason had a very broad legal definition.
I don't need to credit slavery for anything. Nor do I need to defend them on that behalf. Slavery is an embarrassing part of human history that is illegal everywhere since 1982. (before I was born.) I'm not saying they were perfect, times do change and I support that. But, our government should still regard the constitution as the law of the land, as there's nothing negative in it. (although it may say "slaves" once or twice. "Indians" if you're lucky.)
Not in America, I mean world wide. Slavery has been abolished here over 100 years. But we do have lousy race relations in this country, I hope citizens themselves, will stop stereotyping people.
I bet you'll find that most members of the ACLU, the most important organization working to preserve our liberties, are liberals. Conservatives love to say they are defending freedom, when all they really mean is the freedom to own assault weapons, freedom to pollute, and freedom from being forced to help others (taxes). Meanwhile, they all vote for the Patriot Act and want to throw pot smokers in jail.
That's all about holding aborigonies to colonial law. You could still kill them for a bounty. I don't know when that bounty came into effect, but I believe it was similar in nature to payouts for scalps of native americans. Obviously, there was probably not a huge national culture of killing them all the time, or more attention would have been paid sooner.
Liberals don't support freedom. Infact, it's quite the opposite. They believe in bigger government (more government control) and less freedom for the individual. Taxes are NOT a good thing, like Liberals try to say. I'm glad you at least used the word "force," cause that's what it is. I was getting 20% taking out of my paycheck in NY. That's 100$ out of every 500$. Meaning one full time college student, was practically paying for another whole family, who was most likely capable of working, they just didn't want to!!! Allowing me to KEEP my money is freedom. PS Obama supports the patriot act, and keep marijauna illegal, so you're not making very much sense. People should be allowed to own guns, it's in the constitution. Laws against guns, just make things easier for criminals, and harder for law abiding citizens. The truth is, Democrats, Republicans and, Liberals is ALL the same thing. More Government, More Spending, more taxes and, more regulations. It's GOVERNMENT which causes these problems, yet, LIBERALS expect us to believe government's going to fix everything!!! Psshhh! Do me a favor, get back to me once Obama fixes our "crumbling roads, bridges etc.) And you want to talk about the Patriot Act (which Obama supports..) What about the NDAA, HR347, CISPA and, the FAA reauthorization act??? Who's exactly preserving our Liberties?? Cause it's def not Obama!!!
We pay WAY WAY enough tax to fix our roads, and that's always their excuse when raising taxes. "Who will fix the roads?" Well, the government certainly isn't doing it!!!
Don't be ignorant. All your taxes do not go towards supporting some lazy family that refuses to work. A small percentage of your taxes go towards social programs, most for people who need it, some who do not. The biggest percentage of your federal taxes goes towards defense. Then you pay taxes for social security. Then you pay state taxes, which helps education, local police and fire departments, etc
I'm kind of being an ass here, but I think social security is actually the biggest expenditure of the federal budget, followed by Defense, and then Unemployment/welfare, etc.
I wasn't talking about Obama, who is slightly left of center. I was talking about liberals in general, who support freedom more than most conservatives do. Conservatives confuse freedom with money. Just read StpLSD25's posts. He starts off talking about freedom, but ends up talking only about taxes. In my mind, freedom has little to do with money. I want to be free to smoke herb, enjoy LSD and mushrooms, have sex the way I want to, gamble if I like, watch uncensored movies, marry who I want to. Conservatives hate real freedom.
You're right, I was just thinking more along the lines that on your paystub social security is listed separately from your federal taxes. So out of what they take for federal excluding social security defense would be the biggest expenditure.
US Budget. Note that health care is quickly overwhelming everything else. We need more health care reform badly.
