yes, it's always one thursday at the end of november. i'm assuming it's always the 4th thursday of the month, but i don't know for sure.

basically, it means government and union employees get a day off of work, and traditionally spend the day with their families eating turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, and cranberry sauce, and watching the detroit lions lose a football game.

I like the fact that the pilgrims and native americans celebrated together. generally, the idea of thanksgiving is good

maybe a good way to celebrate thanksgiving would be to do something for native americans, who got completely screwed over by the colonists are who are getting screwed still to this day

    happy thanksgiving, everyone

I'm not 100% sure if all of that is true - but that's generally what I believe to be the reason behind it. For all we know they could have been having dinner with a bunch of murderous scum-bags who helped the newcomers take control - with concessions for themselves.

I think it might be a tad patronising inviting your local Native American in for dinner. I'd prefer to be asked by them. Plus every American seems to have a bit of Native blood in them somewhere :p

It's a nice thought - just might need work, imho.

Actually, it's more likely the Indians that were saving the pilgrims puritanical starving asses by bringing them native foods the pilgrims were ignorant of..
Some natives today call it "You're Welcome Day." :indian_chief:

    Happy Thanksgiving! :)

Hey, I just found this recipe for a double layer pumpkin cheesecake..

    -Graham cracker crust
    -16 oz cream cheese
    -1 teaspoon vanilla
    -1/2 cup sugar
    (beat together)
(after thats smooth, beat in 2 eggs one at a time)
-Scoop out 1 cup and place at bottom on pie crust, make it smooth
-Mix in 1/2 cup of pumpkin puree into the remaining mix
-Add pinch of nutmeg, clove and brown sugar
    fold into cream cheese mixture
-layer on top of cheese cake topping
    -Bake a 325 for 20 min
    -place in fridge for 3+hours

^Sounds awesome. I might try to make one someday.

The only thing I've ever baked in the oven was a swanson tv dinner tho.

I gotta do the family scene this thanksgiving. I skipped it for two years. They told me I'll get a pie to take home if I go. So I'm rolling out of my cave this year, for sure.

But if you're going to stay home and have top ramen (like I did for 2 years) here's how to make it properly..

-noodles + hot water + packet through green onion

Happy Thanksgiving all. A great day to join your family and friends and celebrate all the good things in life. That and watch the Detroit Lions lose another game. Happy Thanksgiving all, to all those that have a problem with enjoying today, I'll toast a drink to you.

I'm not allowed to help or do anything in the kitchen, even though I was a restaurant cook for roughly 20 years. :p As in life, Mama prefers (commands) to cook alone. God help the soul that tries to interfere with all that.

So, I'm here on the computer.

Happy Thanksgiving and good eating to all y'all out there!

Yes, Aeri, and she'll be 93 Dec. 21st. Yeah...12/21/2012 she'll be 93. Scary, right? :D SHE is scary! lol

Here's a bit of funny info: we won't get gravy this year...the years we did get it, I began requesting it about a week ahead of time. Then I had to say it at least 2 or 3 times every day up to Thanksgiving. I discovered years ago that was what is required to get it. I didn't feel like going to that much trouble this year. :p

    no you wouldn't. haha

Mama doesn't cook like the vast majority of southern women. Let's just say she really doesn't cook like ANY southern woman I've even met...not even like other women in her family cooked. All of them have now left this mortal veil.

It isn't bad...it IS edible. She just goes to an awful lot of trouble that I don't understand. (That could be the beauty of it...I don't have to understand...right?)

Cottage cheese casserole, poached egg on toast, and if her mind is going Iams dog food casserole, abyssinian au gratin, or roasted golden retriever with a puree of maalox....no thanks
