I dont know how you guys do it The last two summers, i've spent long periods hitchhiking around western canada. (One trip was 4 months, and this summer was 3 months, although i covered WAY more distance in those 3 months). but i've never been able to make it a full time trip. Even with my seasoned hitchhiking skills (Probably got at least 150 rides this summer), and dumpster diving abilities, i still couldn't make it on the road full time. I'm a part time vagabond i suppose. Last summer was my BIG attempt at making it on the road, it went great for a while, but after getting my car impounded (and not getting it back for legal reasons), losing about 700 bucks on fines, and then having my girlfriend leave me only a few days after, things got tough. I made it about another 3 weeks travelling alone before i gave up. Now im here with, over three months later with a roof over my head, a full time job, and a classic car... Even with all this, i still feel as though i was much happier being poor, but living totally free! So what im thinking is.. I am going to spend May-July treeplanting next spring, and then going to go cherry pickin in the okanagan again to get some cash saved for the long haul.... And having a car will make things much easier... I'd like to go a trip for at least a couple years. Perhaps i'm just being unrealistic, and idealistic. But, i feel as though the third times a charm. I might as well give it one last shot. Anybody have their own adventure stories? Any advice for making it on the road for long periods of time? Cheers :2thumbsup:
Hey Raincoast I been Van Dwelling now for almost 3 years now, at first it was a bit tough, but now Ive met several people matter of fact just pulled in to a casino in southern Arizona moments ago and know 8 people here. I also have my a link to my blog with a ton of pictures, and stories in my profile if your interested. Good luck hope the 3rd time works.
Yep its tough on the road without money in the bank or some way to generate a living. Sad to say life is never really free. Many people try to sell at flea markets. Buy stuff at garage sales ultra cheap, like 25cents an item then sell it at the flea market for a dollar. I've been flirting with the lifestyle for a couple of years. Have my rig set to go, just working and saving money for the now. Best of luck to ya
