If your first trip was a bad trip, are you more likely to have a good trip?

Just wanted to know what you think. Let's say your first trip was a bad trip, and you're trying psychedelics for the second time (same drug). Would it be more likely to be a good trip? Or would it be more likely to be a bad trip? Equally likely? Thanks! -Mindcb :sunny:

if not much has changed, you're likely to have a "bad" trip again. that is, if you take the same drug, under similar circumstances (you mental state and your physical setting), the outcome might be similar.

but if you were in a rough mental or emotional spot in your life the 1st time, and now things are better, your trip might be better too.

or these predictions could be proven to be completely wrong, since psychedelics are quite unpredictable.

The subject of bad trips it seems to "ruin" the substance, and have to wait a long time in order to successfully trip on particular substance again.

Like PS says if circumstances have changed then outcome might change, but you never know.

If you previously had a bad trip, there's a big indicator that the future might hold a bad trip taking same substance under similar circumstances.

I think the chances of having a good or bad trip depend on so many different variables that trying to make a prediction based on just one minor factor wouldn't have any real validity.

It would be more prudent to focus your attention on creating a good set and setting.

Alright, so based on what you're saying, let me just supplement this a little bit more. When I had my bad trip, it gave me a completely different view on life. Before I took it I was depressed and wanted to die; I hated my life. Although it was a bad trip, after it ended it made me appreciate life so much more.

The only right answer is to just not worry about it and do it if it feels right. Make sure youre having a good day, and you're in a safe, comfortable place with some good friends or at least plenty of good vibes around. It's hard to go wrong like that, not impossible, but hard.

You will have familiarity with the experience which helps, although some of those negatives you found with the first trip can come back to you as well.

Realize it's something that you choose to explore and take care of the set and setting as has been mentioned. If you are exploring the HBWR again, I highly recommend getting some ginger beer if possible, it's non alcoholic and a nausea suppressant. Nausea and some of the physical effects can certainly influence your mindset.

Alright, thanks for the tips again!

I've actually been considering trying LSD. I think that it would be a much more beneficial and "beautiful" trip than LSA, and I would just like to explore another psychedelic. What is your personal experience with LSD? How would you compare the mental effect of LSD to LSA? I've heard that on LSD you feel more sober than you do while you're not on it.

That's definitely true. My experience with bad trips is that I was having them because there was something in my psyche that was afraid of the experience. In the weeks after my bad trips, I realized three things that helped me get over it. The first thing was that I have done a lot of bad things in my life, and that I need to make up for them, and I needed to forgive myself for them, as it was always sitting uncomfortably in the back of my mind. The second was that I need to allow the psychedelic experience to happen. One day this week I got more stoned than I had been in my life, and I was kind of freaked out for a minute, but I realized that what I thought is me isn't actually me. What was afraid of this was the ego, and the ego is not me. Lastly, if I visualize a guardian who is watching over me, I can allow myself to let go. Whenever I feel bad vibes creeping up, I visualize this picture of Vishnu. I don't know if I consider myself a Hindu right now, but when I'm stoned, this just looks like the ideal image of God and makes me feel comfortable and protected.

No, a bad trip does not make the chance of a positive trip next time bigger. It can be, like already said, if you act upon your experience. So if you know what in your mind or circumstances triggered that first trip to go bad you can make sure you change that in the next trip. On the other hand, if you are unable to worry a lot about it the chance may be in fact bigger that you have another bad trip.

I've only had one trip with HBWR seeds and as others have stated in this thread, trips can vary quite a bit from trip to trip. So given that fact and the fact that my HBWR trip differed from yours quite a bit insofar that I found it overall pleasant but perhaps not quite as profound or therapeutic as your trip some of the comparisons may not translate.

So speaking of not translating, LSD does not make me feel more 'sober' than when not on it. LSD does provide heightened awareness and sensations but its quite mind altering. HBWR provides heightened awareness for me as well, I actually didn't feel much of a narcotic 'doped up' feeling from HBWR like some report. The mental effects of LSA seems more clouded than LSD but not as frantic. I'm not sure if a higher dose of HBWR will prove otherwise but LSD is more dynamic and encompassing, by that I mean the visuals, perceptions, sensations seem to be more rapidly bombarding me on LSD with HBWR I felt as if at times I could sort of dismiss the effects which could be a product of dose but I felt I took a good dose and how much I've tripped overall (quite a bit). I found several moments of LSA to be 'beautiful' but I feel LSD provides more consistent beauty throughout the trip compared to LSA. (although LSD can be scary/overwhelming or kind of grimey at times in its own right) HBWR seeds seem to have a more tactile 'body trip' quality than LSD, LSD often provides a sense of no body load, a light as a feather 'airy' breathing is amazing! Quality.

Okay, oh so wise Guerilla :sunny: You're awesome, man. One thing though. In your opinion, LSD or LSA? A problem I've learned is that people go into LSA thinking "oh this will be like LSD", where in reality it's its own chemical/drug, not a twin of LSD, so it shouldn't be regarded as it at all. (although it's structure is similar) If you want effects of LSD, take LSD. If you want effects of LSA, take LSA. Just a thought.

Also, if I've had HBWR seeds in a drawer (in a double bag) for ~7 months, how well would the LSA have kept, or should I just buy more?

People keep bringing up set and setting - because these are really important issues. To have any clue about that first trip, you need to look at where it was, other people involved, activities, as well as your state of mind going in to it. Substance and dose are also important issues.

At this point, about the only places I trip are at home and at outside psy gatherings. Here is some discussion of some specifics of set and setting, though they aren't identified as such...

LSD can make you feel sober -- in a profoundly manic manner. It's great fun.

LSA involves MUCH less anxiety. At least for me. I think the main reason is that you're acutely aware that no matter what happens, even if you puke, hell even if you ended up at the hospital, you just ate a bunch of fucking flower seeds. Sure, its technically a bit illegal, but..... reeeeallly? If you're on acid, people jump to bad conclusions about you, if you're on shit fro the garden center, they just think you're stupid and childish and that someone's having a laugh at your expense.

Of course this has nothing to do with the actual effects of the drugs, but it can make for a dramatically different set.

As for the actual effects, GB got the differences pretty well with the first post here on page 2. And those differences meld with the legal differences and set the legal differences off.

I would say that the stomach pain caused by eating those seeds offsets the safety of being legal. I was nauseous for hours and my comrade puked his guts out before he could even absorb the LSA.

    Thanks for the compliments!

I prefer LSD. I haven't discussed LSA outside of this website much and I haven't really seen or noticed that thought process going on here with people looking to explore LSA. I've gotten the impression that more often people approach LSA asking for comparisons with LSD or some approach it as sort of just a legal high as RooRshack mentioned, so many underestimate it and may not prepare accordingly. I didn't have a radically transformative experience with LSA on my initial journey (not all my LSD trips have been radically transformative either) but I did see enough qualities in it to see the potential there and I respect it as a legitimate psychedelic.

I've read a fair amount of people not find many similarities between LSA and LSD and I've read some people who find many similarities. If you are limited to comparing the two experiences you would most likely notice several distinct effects, however when you've done many drugs and they range from mescaline to ghb to ketamine so and so forth than those distinctions between LSA and LSD may not seem as drastic. I was surprised how similar the experiences felt myself, certainly wouldn't suggest they are interchangeable or 'twin drugs' and I noticed and enjoyed some of the differences (sans the pronounced LSA vasoconstriction) but I think many similar types of insights and potential benefits can be gained from LSA and LSD, I feel saying it's a chemical relative is appropriate. I truly am eager to explore HBWR again at a higher dose and I'm going to invoke much of the same preparation as I would an acid trip. I think if you were to explore HBWR again, you may notice that some of your notions of 'LSA effects' might vary to a degree based on your set and setting which is why it is stressed so often. Lastly some of us don't have the luxury to take LSD on cue if we want 'LSD effects.'

I've had my HBWR seeds for a little over a month and have only dosed it once so I don't know how quick they are to degrade. The brief info that I came across seemed sort of conflicting, I read that they are stable for very long periods of time and than I also read that the active compounds break down fairly rapidly. Best storage seems to be a cool temperature away from light.

It depends really on why you had a bad trip, and what your learned from that trip. Bad trips aren't as common as you think.

There is a couple ways a bad trip can come on. Like one way being if the experience becomes too intense for you and you don't trust the substance enough. You can think that the walls or closing in on you, or spiders are crawling, or just repeat anxiety through the trip.

Another way is if you are in a bad mind state and you bring it in to the trip. Like you broke up with your girlfriend or something. You might think about your girlfriend the whole trip, and why your such a fuck up, and why you can't keep a girl, and blase blah.

Now the big one is learning something about yourself that you feel is wrong, and having to work through that in the trip. You might realize you have a tendency to talk down to people, or realize your neurotic, or realizing you have bad habits, or whatever the case may be.

Now to prevent the first scenario, just trust in the substance, find a good setting, if you feel like the walls are closing, let yourself know they are not really closing in. Start singing, say to yourself this is hallucnation.

To prevent the second circumstance just don't trip when you have really big problems on your mind. Wait for the right time.

The third one you can't really prevent since it may be underlying problems you were unaware about that can come up. But working through these problems during the trip can be a huge weight off your shoulder. You can actually start off in a bad trip, and end up having a great trip by the end.

So in a sense if you do have a bad trip, and you work through your problems which created the bad trip, so the next time you won't have to work through them. So less chance of a bad trip. So in that sense yes one bad trip, may allow for more positive trip next time. But in another sense, you never really know.

You know most people who go to the amazon and take ayahuasca they are doing so to relieve themselves of some inner demons inside. They are basically taking it knowing it is going to be a difficult trip in which they are going to have to work on themselves. But the Shamen who has done it many many times never has a bad trip. He has worked through all his faults, and now when he trips it is for exploration of the inner worlds. All psychedelics seem to work like this. In your kindergarden trips you will work on behavior and inner cleansing, in your later highschool trips, you were explore the cosmos, learn spiritual lessons, go to the end and back.
