Hello all, Just inquiring about the most recent pickup some funky looking mush. Its been about a year since I last tripped and I have only done so a handful of times. My question is are mushrooms suppose to break when pressure is applied? I thought being "cracker dry" they should sort of fall apart. My concern about is all the other times the batches of mush I had were very brittle. Were these just not properly dried? Could I leave them out with a fan blowing to help? They are just very hard. Also I have noticed it looks almost moldy where the stem meets the cap if the stem was broken off. It looks slightly off from the blue bruising. Should I be concerned about this as well? Looks off. If it is molding there is very little going on. Lastly, what is the best way to go about storing these for a month if needed? Thank you to all the wise heads out there. Your knowledge is greatly appreciated. Peace&Love All [/IMG]
they look normal to me. i'm not a mushroom expert though. for long term storage i would put them in a mason jar and stick it in the freezer.
They look and taste good to me. If you can see thought the cap on the bottom facing down is where I was referring to molding. Thank tho I will be storing them that way instead of in an airtight bag in dark room temperature.
yeah...i still don't see anything weird looking the last shrooms i bought i was worried about the same thing though (moisture and possible mold). they seemed fine when i decided to eat them. i let them sit near dessicant to try and dry them, not sure if it helped. if you store them in the freezer, when you take them out, wait for the jar to heat up to room temp before you open it. this will prevent condensation from forming in the jar. if you push down the lid before tightening the mason jar, it will "pop" when it has heated up a little. i would put them in a bag, and then the bag in the jar, so you can use a paper towel on the interior of the jar if need be. i also included desiccant in the jar when i stored them in the freezer. for one month, it's not necessary. airtight, dark, and room temp would be fine. a ziplock bag is not airtight though. use a mason jar if you have one.
Looks alright to me. The mold you mentioned could be from the dealer not waiting for them to dry, and could make you sick if eaten, but blue bruising is what you want to see.
