A lengthy video is on Liveleak. The police had difficulty pulling his body from the vehicle. His leg appears to be entangled. His reaching to his leg gave the appearance that he might be reaching for a weapon. http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=b72_1355443590
The longer video does bring some questions to mind... I watched a 20+ minute version on YouTube several days ago.
I will try to post a video of an encounter where a driver reached back into his car and pulled out a gun and fired it at the officer. The officer didn't do anything for a few seconds while the guy started reaching back into the car. The bullet passed so close that the officer thought he had gotten shot in the head. It was probably on RealTV or Cops.
I don't care how innocent I am if a cop says "Get on the ground" I'll be sucking dirt with my arms and legs spread. And if my leg is caught in a seatbelt I'll be on the ground in a rather uncomfortable position.
Info regarding encounters with police. http://www.midnightspecial.net/materials/dealingwithpolice.html It's been said that for your own protection you should consider police officers as armed and dangerous. It's not meant as an insult to police officers but rather for your own safety.
It actually wouldn't matter WHO was pointing a gun at me, whether it was a cop, the Pope, my best mate or a stranger....I'd do exactly as I was told.
:blush5: I didn't think you hate cops, but there are members here that will jump on any "anti-authority" bandwagon regardless of the circumstances. His past does figure into it as far as understanding the officers mind-set and expectations of the interaction. I do believe in forgiveness, but ya still gotta be wise as a fox in it's administration. I could "forgive" Ernie his past, but not for a second forget it if I were placed in a face to face confrontation. It is a sad thing for all involved, but everyone wanting to condemn the officer need to bear in mind that Ernie is the one that made the choices that put him in that predicament, not the officer. He just had the misfortune of being on duty that day.
Every part of the long video is worth watching and also listening to. Anyone have any comments about the search for the knife during that video?
I hope you realize how lucky you are that you have never been in a position where you required the aid of a police officer. That's a good thing Believe me your opinion of them will change the moment you suddenly need them.
At face value it does look like the knife "found" was the same knife one of the other policeman provided and was used to cut off the guys shirt. This knife was used and then set on the edge of the pickup bed, it was then later removed by a policeman. But the point in time this happened may not be the search that found the "alleged weapon", I wouldn't know.
To me, it doesn't really matter if they found a knife or not. They guy had something in his hand. If I were the officer, I would have shot him too. Not eleven times, just once or twice till he went to the ground. In situations such as this, you cannot expect an officer to wait till he identifies the object. Lol like he's gonna go in for a closer look to make sure. What got to me most is when he cuffed the guy afterwards. The dead dude isn't gonna make a move buddy, you just unloaded your pistol into him. For those who are saying the cop put himself into the situation by getting too close......wtf? How's he gonna make an arrest from across the street? He was doing his job and did what he thought he had to do in order to protect himself while doing it. Still shouldn't have fired so many shots though. You can shoot someone once and he'll go down. If he keeps coming at you, that's when you unload.....not as the guy is falling to the ground. But in all fairness, how many of us make the right decisions in a split second scenarios.....not to mention when your life is on the line?
a lot of people on here seem to be asking why he was handcuffed, well its mandatory for them to do it, even though he was presumed dead already. nah don't worry he won't
Seems like one reason this goes round and round is not reading or recalling what was posted along the way. In the expert video analysis already posted it is shown that he had a knife in his hand as he exited the truck. Does "found" mean you think they planted it? Maybe that's better suited to the conspiracy threads. He had a knife and even other witnesses stated so. Numerous people have pointed out the flaw in this thinking. Exactly. Which is why cops get so much training. That would be me. Who said across the street? Hyperbole doesn't make a point. How about control the situation and protect yourself before you move in? Here's a similar situation that has a completely different outcome. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I8x9n7axDiQ"]DashCam High Speed Police Chase ends in Felony Stop GunPoint. - YouTube The suspect is a threat. He's running from the cop. He gets out of the car without being told to. The cop explains that they had a report of someone impersonating a cop in a black dodge. He has every reason to treat the guy as a threat. What does the cop do? He stays back and controls the situation. If that guy had continued to not comply or make a threatening move, no doubt he would have gotten shot. And at no point does the cop escalate or throw himself into danger.
No flaw in his thinking, you shoot to ELIMINATE the threat, i dont understand what you dont get about that? That's how they are trained. what if he popped back up after getting shot twice and had a gun with him. ELIMINATE THE THREAT. and im not spewing bull shit, thats how it works. Ask someone who works in law enforcement.
Reading comprehension Sir. Then I said Let me rephrase. Letlovin made a statement to which I responded that many people have pointed out is flawed.
Many people have also pointed out the flaws in your thinking. Yet you haven't changed your mind. People and their thinking
