Happened about 20 minutes from where I live. My dad called me and told me to turn on the news a little over an hour ago.

People call me a debbie downer and shit, but why can't people just accept that everything in this world is truly fucked, and it's not going to get any better anytime soon?

Also, to add to what you stated, four firemen were shot in total, two of which died.

It appears that some crazy fuck lit his house on fire, and once the fire department showed up the guy started shooting at them. Because of this, they obviously couldn't fight the fire, so it spread and now like 4 or 5 homes are fully engulfed... or at least the last time I checked the TV it was that many.

This kind of thing gets an amazing amount of coverage. This is what makes the news, not the good stuff. We're pushing 7 billion people on the planet. These events are actually remarkably rare even if you hear about them several times a year.

Since industrialization has kicked in and things have gotten more urban and modern violence has actually dropped off dramatically. It's really common for people to think the days of yore were quiet and peaceful because their weren't world wars. The fact of the matter is, we've been heading in the right direction for thousands and thousands of years. Sure it's a slow process, but if you look closely, the future is bright.

this is misleading. I'm willing to accept that compared to tribal societies, the rate of murder has declined.

the rate of mass shootings has been increasing in recent years. I suppose one could take comfort in thinking we are safer now than we were thousands of years ago. However, we seem to be going down hill.

Shit's really going to hit the fan when resource scarcity and if global warming kick in
