Can someone id this mdma precursor/intermediate for me?

Hi swim is an experienced meth cook/aspiring chemist. He wants to try something a little more challenging and have read every mdma synth on the net...1000 times over lol. Swim has a source for what he assumed was safrole but now has his doubts..it is definatly a route to mdma cause other swims are doing it..but wont share there knowledge.. Greedy bastards :-( anyway what swim has is a colourless oil, with a very slight yellow tinge. After sitting in a garage for a few weeks it settled into very large clear crystals, that melt back to an oil once disturbed...if you but It in the freezer it forms a solid of tiny needle shaped crystals.Faint sweetish odor..hard to explain but definatly has a 'familiar' odor thats reminds swim of something..just cant put my finger on it. It is insoluble in toluene. Any got know what it could be or what tests i could run to find out? Thanks in advance to anyone who can help?

From your physical description it does sound like safrole. and if other swims are doing good work with the same product, what makes you doubt its identity?

 

Maybe he doubts its purity

 

put aroudn 10ml of oil into a test tube and test its congelation pt.
