Indigo children, according to a pseudoscientific New Age theory, are children who are believed to possess special, unusual and sometimes supernatural traits or abilities. The idea is based on concepts developed in the 1970s by Nancy Ann Tappe and further developed by Jan Tober and Lee Carroll. The concept of indigo children gained popular interest with the publication of a series of books in the late 1990s and the release of several films in the following decade. A variety of books, conferences and related materials have been created surrounding belief in the idea of indigo children and their nature and abilities. The interpretations of these beliefs range from their being the next stage in human evolution, in some cases possessing paranormal abilities such as telepathy , to the belief that they are more empathetic and creative than their peers. Although no scientific studies give credibility to the existence of indigo children or their traits, the phenomenon appeals to some parents whose children have been diagnosed with learning disabilities and to parents seeking to believe that their children are special. Skeptics view this as a way for parents to avoid proper (and generally pharmaceutical) pediatric treatment or a psychiatric diagnosis. The list of traits used to describe the children has also been criticized for being vague enough to be applied to almost anyone, a form of the Forer effect. Critics have stated the promotion of indigo children is used as a way for unqualified people to make money from credulous parents through the sales of related products and services.
Anyone who buys the whole indigo children theory is an idiot in my opinion (especially parents who think their children are special indigo human beings).
Never even heard of this....sounds kinda cool, though. But if there is no evidence to their existence, how are there so many theories?
someone i met recently said there were a bunch of people he knew at his high school who claimed to be indigo children. from what he told me, they basically just smoked a lot of weed and they also said that at the end of the world, there would be a bright light and they would be "saved". weird.

I don't know, but any kids who rebel against this current crap we are experiencing in the developed World should be applauded, however difficult this is for parents.A lot of kids are very special, and have innate bullshit detector mechanisms that should be listened to.People whose experiences range across the whole electro-magnetic spectrum should be a appreciated as shamans and workers of grey magic.Bon't be afraid of the rainbow toad.
Of course people should be willing to listen but so what? The kids in this quote of you are not indigo children. Kids that are very very special are not indigo children. It is just another invented nonsense theory in the end.
All I know is if I was autistic or suffered from pre-adolescent post traumatic stress syndrome,I'd be a lot happier if someone called me an Indigo child than just plain "dumb" and all the other insults differently abled people get.
I never associated the indigo child label with autistic kids, as far as I know it is not ment for them at all. I am sure a person with down syndrome would love to be called different too, should we really invent a nonsense label and apply it to them?
i've never heard an autistic kid being called dumb. i think most people saw rain man once and assume autistics are all geniuses. anyway, i'm socially awkward, but i would be a lot happier if people would start calling me a "magic fancy sparkle man" than "awkward."
Not at all, a lot of invented theories are far from nonsense. It doesn't hurt to take a critical stance and if you do I doubt you'd find the indigo children theory credible and usefull yourself.
