    I'm a beginner as well, but found that just looking up chords online was a huge help. Plenty of good books out there too, though. Also most traditional Hawaiian songs are just super easy, simple 4-chord songs. :) happy ukuleleing!

    Who`s got all the girlies chasing him around?
    Freddy the Freshman, the freshest kid in town!

    Now, who wrecks all the parties, and turns them upside-down?
    Freddy the Freshman, the freshest kid in town!

    He plays the ukulele, he plays the saxophone,
    And the pretty babies just won`t leave him alone!

    I need to get me one those things. these guitars weigh a ton.. ;)

    How many strings do those things have? Tuning?

    Ehh if you learn guitar you can play with more people, in more styles, without having to become a bloody virtuoso.

    The ukulele is like it's made for experimenting and self teaching, but if you look for beginner's guides you'll find plenty on youtube. I myself got one just a few weeks ago :)

    I found it useful to start with a basic chord chart until you got a feeling for the instrument and are able to memorize the patterns, and just exercise strumming & fingerpicking (which should be the easy part for you as guitarplayer). How many frets did you get ?

    The tuning is G-C-E-A, means the 3rd string is the bass.

    Enjoy !

    Thanks :)

    It came with a weird tuner thing, not an electric one, its like a harmonica but just 4 bits, one for each string..pretty cool but tricky to use.. i have an electric guitar tuner but it doesnt say it works on ukes..

    Im having fun with it anyway, which was the main thing:)

    ... here's another quick way to tune, starting with the C string (you'd still first need a C ... well when playing with others)

    ||---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|--- A
    ||---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|--- E
    ||---|---|---|---|---|---| x |---|---|--- C
    ||---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|--- G
    (7th fret on C-string)

    ||---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|--- A
    ||---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|--- E
    ||---|---|---| x |---|---|---|---|---|--- C
    ||---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|--- G
    (4th fret on C-string)

    ||---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|--- A
    ||---|---|---|---| x |---|---|---|---
    |--- E
    ||---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|--- C
    ||---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|--- G
    (5th fret on E-string)

    blue = pluck
    x = where you put your finger

    Hope it makes sense !

    Ok I was looking for chord lists but not very happy with what I found, so I made my own ... let me know if you can use it ! (or found a bug)

    I also can send it to you in higher resolution if you want.

    Once overheard a teacher giving kid a 1st lesson…

    Song was Jason Miraz I’m Yours

    Chords are: C G Am F

    For strumming, guy started by getting kid to strum fingertips on his own leg

    Had a phrase for the pattern…fake-italian voice...”tonight I squeeze-a you tight”

    So tonight is one up-down, I squee.. is another ..ze-a you is another, then tight is final downstroke (slight emphasis). The last up stroke is skipped, then all repeat.

    Sorry this^ a bit hard to explain in writing

    Finally guy got kid to imagine JM singing the song with that phrase^ being sung in tandem.

    Each of the C G Am and F chords get 2 X ‘tonight I squeeze-a you tight’s

    Kid picked it up pretty quick and it sounded pretty good

    I use to have a Ukulele when I was 18 but one of my baby sisters smashed it. I use to sing to myself "My dog has fleas" to tune it. I did not have a tuner. You can find lessons on YouTube.
