Title kinda says it all..it's all we use in NZ, I only know of one person who does differently, and that's because he says wax attracts dirt. I used to wax my dreads all the time and there was no problem, it didn't keep the tufty bits in though so I'm not using it now..

I'm told it attracts dirt and bugs to your hair. Here in Canada most of the people I know do it naturally. If you want your dreads to be round with no tufty bits roll them between your hands.

I've rolled them, I've done everything..the main problem area is a few cm from my scalp, so it's hard to roll or do much to without help (and help isn't always easy to get!) But thanks a lot :)

i had wax on my dreads and i found it was very hard to get out and made my dreads sticky, dirty and gross. Its the easiest way to shape them but you can end up with some ick looking dreads!

i was always a purist with my dreads. they were a spiritual thing. i let them come in natural. if your in a hurry and its a cosmetic thing, i dont see anything wrong with tyin knots in your hair and waxing them. looks nicer than hairspray.

I agree. I worked for DreadheadHQ and I had done dreads for people with and without wax. I liked using the wax, just b.c it seemed easier to work with them. I didn't see where it attracted dirt and certainly not bugs, you just have to use a small amount...about the size of an M&M candy per dread.

your dreads are more likely to mold if you use wax, as waxy hair dosent dry as fast

ooooooh thanks :) A lot to think about, the main problem is that they've always gotta look good (working 5 days a week) and I don't have time to let the top bits slowly grow in, I've gotta force em and do horrible things to them!! Like rubber bands (never doing that again).. Thank you so much for your input, everyone. Especially earthfriend etc who said wax can help them go mouldy, I used to wash my hair and tie it up about 5 minutes later, at the end of the day it was still wet in places which can't be good.

i use to use hemp oil and pure organic aloe gel (or juice) and i found that it kept my scalp from getting dry and itchy but when i washed my hair it would dry real quick.

i find wax bad cause it seems to get stuck in the middle of the dread.. i used wax for 2 days *too lazy to keep waxing*, i washed my hair 2 times per week, and 6 months later when i combed them out, there was crap in the middle of the dreads.. like really disgusting things.. *yuk*
i used bee-wax, that was meant for dreadheads..
