They have recently become one of my favorite snacks. I get the slightly more expensive "King Oscar" ones which are packed in extra virgin olive oil. I really like them a lot. All I can say is don't knock 'em until you've tried them. To me, in flavor, they're not much more fishy tasting than tuna fish. They are also extremely healthy and one of the safer fish to eat in terms of their lack of mercury contamination. They are an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids, and a single can packs 14 grams of protein. They are high in fat as well, but it's the good kind of fat your body thrives on and keeps your metabolism going strong.

Your opinion: Sardines: Yay or Nay or never had them?

I really like the kind that are packed in mustard, can't do the plain kind. I've never had them packed in olive oil though....might have to give that a whirl.

Sardines offer a number of nutrition and health benefits.

Sardines also make for a good jury.

They don't appeal to me in first instance but I guess I should try them again. I have no recollection of how they might taste although I'm pretty sure I ate some once..

    nay nay nay

I can smell them 8 blocks away. Anything that stinks that much doesn't go in my mouth.

I package bait sardines in 1lb and 5lb bags... The ones I package are a bit larger than the sardines I imagine OP is referring to, there are 5-6 to a lb. I would never eat them as they look and smell gross.

I have never gotten past the smell. My son loves them. Maybe I'll taste one next time he has some.

    But only maybe.

Pressed Rat!!! Sardines??? :D you might be the one i've been searching for all my life. I ate my Brissling Sardines in olive oil(slightly smokey flavor they added to the can, which i didn't quite like)...but, I pondered the taste as I ate the Brisslings, keep pondering and wondering why i was thinking about sardines for the last few days. I have one packet of Sardines left, everytime i go into the kitchen ..it calls to me. maybe that is the portal to you, Pressed Rat. Eureka!! I have found you. rofl maybe. heh...who knows. coincidence? i don't think so. :D I do love regular sardines though, so full of Omega3's and not a lot of mercury. yum.
