1) 200,000 Americans Killed Every Year From Prescription Drugs 2) More than 2 million Americans become seriously ill every year from prescribed medicines 3) Americans take 80% of psycotic drugs in the world 4) Half of all Prescribed Medicines are ‘Useless or Dangerous’ says doctors. i was given pretty much every psychiatric medication at one point or another without any questions really asked one time i went into a psych hospital for becoming "suicidal" (really i was just moody and running my mouth) after abusing a benzo (which the doctors were all aware of after drugs tests), and i managed to convince them to give me a month supply of 6mg of klonopin a day upon my release i was also given three antipsychotics, two antidepressants, and a mood stabilizer while there and was told to continue when i left... think i did for like a week until i thought i was going to die i definitely bullshitted a lot... but it was made sooo so easy i'm not gonna lie. that kind of thing happened with me more than once, too glad my life's not like that any more though...
There is a lot of over prescribing in America. It's slightly more difficult over here, but still in the culture of giving out meds and diagnosing 'normal' behaviour.
I take so many issues with this. First, your "source" is highly questionable.... "I have also read that Americans take about 80% of psycotic drugs in the world. Are Americans weak? hypochondriacs?"-no source provided. Well, I "read" that the Earth is 6,000 years old and we lived with dinosaurs. Even so, I'm sure we do take a majority of the psych meds, BECAUSE WE HAVE THE ONLY THING CLOSE TO MENTAL HEALTH CARE when compared with the majority of the world. Do you know what they do to psychotic people elsewhere? They lock them up (like we do here, only without meds) or kill them. And do you realize how destructive it is to label those who take psychotic meds as "weak?" SERIOUSLY??? People like you are the reason so many LEGITIMATELY mentally ill people don't seek treatment--because there's a stigma against them. That if you take a pill for depression, you're doing it wrong, you can just go outside and meditate and then everything will be sunshine and rainbows. People who think this way have NO IDEA what they're talking about, have NOT seriously studied mental illness and have certainly NEVER MET anyone who is having a psychotic episode because then you'd know that no amount of kumbaya-natural bullshit is going to help. Are meds perfect? Absolutely not. But they're the best of what we have available now, and it's better than naively assuming that someone with schizophrenia or post-partum psychosis just needs a fresh air and a listening ear. Most of the "reactions" you speak of are allergies, which yes, can sometimes be fatal. And yes, it's tragic. But how many people die from peanut allergies or bee stings? It's just one of the risks that comes with the territory. And, if your source is correct that 65% of americans take prescriptions, that means that with a population of 311 million, the rate of reactions is 0.9%. Less than 1% of people taking prescriptions has a reaction. Not so scary now, is it? Your source also states: "People carelessly throw away medicine bottles and containers with lables on it. Frauds and cheats use this readily available bottles and refill it with contaminated medicines. This is also one of the reasons for medicine related deaths and this more in poor and under developed countries." Assuming this is true, how is that big pharma's fault? Look, I'm not defending big pharma. I'm sure the majority are greedy assholes who don't really care about human life. But I'm also a nurse, and I work everyday with people who would otherwise be dead if it weren't for their medicine, so it's a little hard for me to get outraged at a 0.9% reaction rate. I myself am a person who would otherwise be dead if it weren't for my meds. And no, nurses don't get any money from big pharma. I don't know what your educational background is, but given your unreliable sources and rush to judgements, I think it's safe to assume you have no formal medical training. Listen, when it comes to medicine, TALKING OUT OF YOUR ASS CAN KILL PEOPLE!! It's dangerous. You don't know how many gullible people may be reading your posts and actually taking you seriously. Hopefully not many, but still, you never know. It's irresponsible, so STOP IT.
well numerous members of my family would have been killed if they had taken "advice" and continued taking the medicines "hospital experts" advised them to take. Sometimes commercial pharma is ok.Other times, its being prescribed due to financial inducements, lobbying and a corruption of the whole process. The ideal situation is often a naturally occuring alternative, as it is absorbed better. However *sometimes* western pharma is ok as a "fast acting quick option". Personally, I avoid western and go for eastern/ natural whenever possible. But again, you need a good doctor/expert, not some quack.
My sister has been prescribed two different anti depressions and one anti seizure medication to help with a nerve pain in a tooth. This makes no sense to me. I understand meds can be effective in different ways but anti depressants prescribed to a mentally healthy person cannot be good.
No shit Sherlock. That's true of any business that sells stuff. But American's are pretty damn complacent with it, and that plays a HUGE role. How many prescriptions could be avoided if people would get off their ass and exercise and not eat 10,000 calories a day and not smoke? Well over half, I'd say. But American culture says take the easy way out. And yes, big pharma plays into that by making a plethora of prescriptions available to us, but big pharma didn't start that, that's been in our culture for a long time. The INDIVIDUAL is ultimately responsible for their health. It's not like health care professionals don't encourage people to eat right and exercise. They don't keep it a secret from them. It's that by and large people DON'T WANT TO DO IT.
BECAUSE WE HAVE THE ONLY THING CLOSE TO MENTAL HEALTH CARE -what a bunch of shit. Where the fuck do you get off suggesting that the US is pretty much the only country that treats mentally ill patients. You want to do some fucking homework before you come out with a sweeping statement like that.
Not Even A Disprin Or Panadol Taken Here, Just A Mild Dose *8mg* Of Atacand For Borderline Blood Pressure.... I Attribute My Good Health To A Controlled Intake Of Good Quality Red Wine, Mother Natures Preservative......:2thumbsup: Cheers Glen.
To be fair, she did say ''When compared to the majority of countries'' after that sentence you quoted, which is quite true. Obviously, there are other countries, a lot of them with much better mental health care than the US, so that kind of capitalised statement really isnt helpful.
Really? I believe I said "...when compared to the majority of the world" after that. I never said we were the only one. I meant compared to Africa, China, India, the Middle East, etc. Of course there are places that do much better than us. But it does no good to lament all our use of psychiatric medication when you have no other feasible solution to the problem.
The majority of the world according to you excludes all of the developped countries in Europe, Scandinavia, South America and the Southern hemisphere then? Hardly the majority!
Adam Lanza was on fanatp , I made a post on this . If he or other mass shooters shoot people while on vitamin c , all the monkes in d.c. would call for vitamin c to be baned . As long as big pharma keeps the monkes in d.c. the doctors will keep pushing anti psychoic drugs , and mas shooters will do there thing and other will die and suffer . desert rat
Most of the world is poor. Most countries in the world are poor, that's the nature of capitalism. But that's a whole other thread. China and India alone have 1/3 of the world's population. Yes, your lovely Europe is much better than us at a lot of things, and Canada and Australia. I didn't think I had to list every region on Earth for you to understand what I mean. Sorry.
No they wouldn't, vitamin C has no effect on behavior. And anti-psychotic meds are never meant to be a fool-proof guarantee of non-violence, that is why those who are put on medication are closely monitored and, while I don't know if this is the case in Adam Lanza's situation, but they ideally should be started on an inpatient basis so they can be very closely monitored as to their effectiveness. Still, non-compliance is a HUGE issue in the mental health world. He might not have been taking it properly. And, if you ask me, his mother is somewhat to blame in all this--she knew her son had psychosis yet kept an arsenal of loaded weapons in the house. Maybe she was denial, who knows. I should also add that psychopaths are different than sociopaths (not out of your mind, just a complete lack of empathy), and in the case of Adam Lanza, there was probably a basic lack of empathy added in to the mix. I mention this because there is NO medication available to make someone empathetic towards other people. That's why there will always be serial killers and mass murders, we just have to work on minimizing them as much as possible. Most sociopaths aren't even violent, just destructive in many other ways. The point is, we still have a long way to go when it comes to psychiatric medication, but I ask you--WHAT ELSE DO YOU PROPOSE WE DO??? Keep in mind, we're talking about violent psychosis here--not mild depression. So what is your solution??
When I was in the hospital on and off this year the doctors almost overdosed me with insulin. I have type 2 diabetes and am on metformin for it. I have the diabetes mostly under control. Since I had an infection and an abscess they put me on insulin while I was there. If my family had not brought me fruit and nuts; there are a couple of times my blood sugar would have gotten dangerously low. At home I usually use natural medicine but lately I have nearly died this year and have taken doctor prescribed meds. There are times you need to draw a line. I look up everything I am prescribed. For mental health I would recommend 5-htp for a natural med. There are many places you can look it up online.
I try to stay away from most all medications and have for years. I don't know if them numbers are correct, but I do know there is a problem with doctors over prescribing. Peace https://www.************/pages/TC-Rivers/406856886057416
