Obama's best ideas that were blocked include caps on carbon emissions, eliminating corporate welfare for oil companies, effective measures to reduce health care costs, and infrastructure spending. That's just off the top of my head; I'm sure there were more.

This was a much better answer, thank you.

I am particularly interested in his measures to reduce health care costs, as I was under the impression that all he's tried to do is dump more money into it.

The public option for the ACA was another.

I'll admit that I am sometimes guilty of placing too much blame on the guy. More emphasis should be placed on local politicians.

My recollection is that the GOP blocked almost everything that would have been effective in actually making health care more affordable, and now they are blaming him for all the recent increases in premiums.

Conservatives keep misleading people into thinking that the ACA increases the deficit, when the opposite is true.

I didn't vote for him but I think he's just a tool like many other tools before him. I also think he is not the cause of every single problem out there at the moment and its almost amusing to hear people around here complain about him like he's the end of the world.

end dependence on foreign oil, create jobs, enable people to commute longer distances for work, etc.

I'm a huge proponent of high speed rail and I definitely think it should be a bigger priority for the government. I think Obama missed a great opportunity when he inherited a shitty economy and did not introduce something similiar to the New Deal....he could have created something like a modern day CCC but instead of building parks, put people to work building a vast network of high speed rail all over the country. It would boost the economy and modernize America a bit, improving the country's infrastructure.

or maybe something like that really couldn't pass with the current Congress

buut I digress...this country is going down the shitter and too many dinosaur industries control our politicians. America seems to have forgotten lofty ideals such as progress and advancement.

The more people attack Obama, the more I love him.

The problem with America is Republicans.

Show me a Republican and I will show you an ignorant, delusional hate monger.

What Republicans do best is HATE. They hate Blacks, Hispanics, other minorities, immigrants, gays, intellectuals, women, young people, in fact anyone who is not White and a member of a Protestant church.

Next they are ignorant. Ignorant about Global Warming, ignorant about Economics, ignorant about the World and how it works. Ignorant about gun violence. Ignorant about the Constitution.

Finally they are delusional. They see conspiracies everywhere, believe the most ridiculous lies, distrust everyone but Fox News and Rush Limbaugh.

If I could have one wish it would be that the Country was rid of everyone who has voted for a Republican since 2004.

The two party system is there to separate us at this point. If the system has separated you from your fellow citizens then someone has done their job right. Best thing we can all do is refuse their bullshit and start working together.

the fundamental division in america is not left vs right, or republicans vs democrats. it's those who bear good will toward others vs those who don't. it's those who are civil and unselfish vs those who are uncivil and selfish.

I think that you will find good and bad people across the political spectrum. it's not necessary to label anyone who disagrees with you as an idiot or a criminal, and I'm dismayed by the ease with people are willing to resort to these kind of labels.

can we disagree and debate without all the hate?

    I'll bite the cake

I really don't give too many shits about politicians because they are truly ruled by money, so any of their ideals of better policy, law, foundation to make a better government/world get squashed or rather subtracted by whomever lent them money to get them on top.

So when it comes Obama for president or really any politician that runs for POTUS, the common denominator is that they're politicians - so the fact that they are puppets/figure heads/corporate shills is pointless to mention because they are ALL like that. *had to get that out of the way first*

....with that said I support Obama because he was better than the alternative
(primary Mitt Romney). In my opinion - he is way more socially progressive than Mitt Romney (civil right issue concerning same sex marriage, women health, childhood obesity), has a better healthcare plan (which still isn't perfect, but will give more people coverage), and his stance through the credit card reform/extended college loans I'm in agreement with. Also the economy as a hole is steady doing better, it's sluggish but in the right direction - so far.

Though he just made the Bush tax cuts permanent and then had to increase taxes even more (on everyone) to compensate for it :/

Yeah he isn't perfect but no person is, nor is he a saint/black jesus/savior - I think the people who had expectations of him being so are heavily deluded. I mean c'mon the OP could change Obama's name with any of the presidents of the 20th century and the statement would remain true (expect for Carter maybe).

He may not be perfect but compared to who he replaced and who would have replaced him, I think you have made a better deal.
