I was looking for some old work when I came across this one. It's the only acrylic piece I have ever done. I don't like acrylic because the working time is so short. I am so slow at making decisions that I need the long drying time of oils to keep the paint workable while I figure out what I'm doing.

Someone told me that adding glycerin to the paint extends its working time, so I tried that when I started this piece. Beginning from the right, I painted the four columns there as well as the wall behind them using glycerin in my paint. However, I didn't like the way it acted, so I stopped using the glycerin immediately. I checked that area for several days after that and it just didn't seem to want to dry, so I kept working around it, hoping it would finally do so, but after two weeks, I realized that I had used too much glycerin and that it might never dry. I was forced to strip that area clean and repaint it. I threw the glycerin away.

Anyhow, this is my finished product. I hope you like it.

I thank you Stars. This piece was painted from photo reference. That's why it looks that way. If I had used oils, I could have made it look even more realistic. It took me a long time to realize though, that you don't need to paint hyper-realistically (I think I spelled that right) to create amazing art.

By the way, this place is in Minneapolis. It's part of the Gold Medal flour factory there. I'm not sure that place is even operational anymore. This is actually a train trestle. There are four sets of tracks above this service road, which is covered in broken concrete and oil.

Thank you, Amy. I haven't painted in quite some time now. Instead, I work with scrap steel and a welder. Here are a few things I've posted. My best piece is in the last link. I never again painted as well as I did when I painted that piece.

The cell shading feel is especially appealing to me.
