Dilaudid only does so much and I can't go to a doctor or clinic without paying a fortune they'll even talk to me. Anyone else having a shit night/morning?
What clinic in Canada are you going to that you have to pay for? Why do you not have a health card? Kidney stones are miserable to pass. Sorry to read that you have them.
My bro's been going through this for about a month now. They're finally gonna operate next week. Brought to you by OHIP. Where are you that you gotta pay to get into a clinic?
I am not a citizen and haven't been granted my Permanent Residency yet. The clinic closest to me won't see me unless I pay them $75 in cash plus any expenses further. Luckily this one isn't as bad as my first ever. I was in the hospital overnight with morphine for that. I honestly believed I was going to just die right there. I am worried though because I have a slight fever.
I suppose that's not something I can buy otc? Does it dissolve the stones or something? I've never been given anything because they're so small. But they still hurt like a bitch. I feel terrible for anyone passing the big ones all the way.
where in canada are you? you can call telehealth ontario for medical advice:1-866-797-0000 you don't need to provide a health card number or anything, so even if you're outside ontario, you might as well call.
flomax is prescription only it relaxes the ureter and urethra i have no idea if youre male or female but it should help either way...makes the passage easier
What about an emerg? I can't see them turning you away. You'd be low priority and have one helluva wait but I don't think they'd bill you. Though now that I think about it, emerg made me fill out a pile of paperwork to use my Alberta HC in Ontario...so maybe they will require some hoops to jump for a non-citizen. I dunno. But it's gotta be worth a shot.
If you have a fever you may want to go in. You could first try more fluids and Tylenol for the discomfort and fever. If it continues though you really should go in as you may require assistance to pass them. Hope they pass soon.
Thanks so much for the advice. My fever went up to 102.0 earlier; 20 minutes before that it had been 100.6. Just checked it after taking a fever reducer and waiting about an hour and a half and it has dropped back to 100.8. If it goes up again at all I'll just cry at the ATM and pay them what they want. My mom almost died a few years ago from a sudden infection from a huuuge stone lodged in her ureter. Her kidney swelled up a lot and they did emergency surgery to put in a stint. Luckily my kidney stones have always shown up on the scans as being very small (put a bic pen to paper and twist it, the dot is how big mine are!). Guess after this I need to seriously adjust my diet. Goodbye copious amounts of sweet tea and raw baby spinach. How are you all this evening? Hopefully better than me! Here's a complimentary photo of what I'm doing to distract myself: Pretty great novel. Lucifer is presented with the opportunity to come back to Heaven to be an angel again, but in order to prove he has changed/is worth the effort he must live life as a mortal human for a certain amount of time without fucking up. He is given the body of an author that has just committed suicide. I love books like this, as well as creature fantasy (the Drizzt books are my obsession). If you have any recommendations for a bibliophile that likes this type of stuff, I am never not looking for new books!
I've had I think three major attacks but still haven't passed one yet. My doctor said it's not uncommon for some types, when as small as mine are, to just dissolve. After they rip through you like a fucking sphere of knives, of course. I have a healthy stockpile of strong painkillers though. I intend to use them if I end up having to pass it. Wish I could just use emla cream to numb the hell out of my urethra though.
If I end up having to go anyway, I will ask about the flomax. I'm female. I hear the pain is quite a bit worse for men...so sorry to hear that. Heh.
my trouble is ureter only...from kidney to bladder once they get to the bladder they come out easy due to the really large passages :biker:
According to my mom, who's had four kids and has battled stones for the past 25 years, and a bunch of other women, stones were more painful than childbirth for them. I don't like or want kids so I have zero plans to ever find out. A doctor once told me the two things considered to be the most painful experiences are bad kidney stones, and a broken pelvis. Fucking ow.
Woke up at 6:00am with a fever of 103. Thought I was going to start smelling my flesh cooking. I've beating back the fever all day. I think it finally broke though. I passed my stone tonight, first time I've ever fully done that. Fuck that noise. Considering the throbbing ache still in my kidney, I assume there was/is an infection but my body seems to be fighting it off. Some people say they wouldn't wish their most intense pain/experience on their worst enemies. I would gladly wish this on my worst enemy. They are my worst enemy for a reason and thus should suffer.
