Hello everybody! I am a student in Australia, and I am currently writing a Personal Interest Project on Hippies, and my chosen question is: "HOW HAVE MODERN TECHNOLOGY AND THE MODERN MEDIA INFLUENCED PUBLIC PERCEPTIONS OF, AND ATTITUDES TOWARDS, THE 1960s HIPPIE MOVEMENT?" I would be forever grateful if I received detailed answers and discussion! Please help, and I appreciate your time and opinion/s! :daisy:
It seems to me as if it has somewhat ridiculed the 60s counterculture (for the most part).. being a hippie is about sharing love, expanding your consiousness, and practicing a free lifestyle.. I feel like the message has been missinterpreted.
Meh... I think the influence of modern technology and media is pretty balanced. After all, 'pro-hippie' people make as much use of them as those who feel like ridiculing them. Everybody has their say. The more interesting part to me though is not how nowadays media would be portraying the 1960 hippie movement but how this eco-friendly environmentalism/'green movement' of today and the future makes use of today's media and technology.
I do like the comment of Asmodean somehow..in the roaring 60's we did NOT have internet,no cell phones...but still...we could communicate..and I believe nowadays technology like tweeter, facebook etc..has done more harm to the real term **hippie** or what a hippie is about then one can imagine...neo hippies??oh well?? being a hippie..should not neccessary be a connection towards the big www.. is it??as I said before.. it's a state of mind...and we got our OWN mind...and that's not run by a P.C.. difficult subject..If you ask me..what's a true hippie???ohoh??
I try not to take much notice of it. I never hear any positive things about it, except from a few educated people or actual hippies. Otherwise they just make fun of hippies, call us useless, junkies, stupid or whatever their narrow-minded, uneducated opinions are haha. So silly. Although there is allot more interest in it thanks to "Hipsters".. no matter how awful they are...
