If you are a regular barefooter, especially when outside, do you get a regular tetanus shot in case you step on a rusty nail?
I got one about 20 years ago. Someone had thrown a board with rusty nails in it into the creek. It had three nails in it they went through my foot. I had to pull it out to walk home.
I'm current. I did get cut once on a hike near home last year. Probably a sharp rock, but never found out for sure. I didn't realize I was cut until a minute after it happened. Little smaller than dime size round slice down to the soft meat, with dirt ground in by time I realized I was injured. I cleaned and bandaged it, put sandals on and limped home. I was worried about it getting infected, but it healed fine. If I had not been carrying a small first aid kit and sandals (which I always do) it would have been a much more painful, difficult hike back home.
A few cuts over the years, nothing serious. Not had a shot since I was a kid, maybe I'm lucky. Madesh
ive stepped on many syringes over the years. im just playing the odds that one of them was a tetanus vaccine
Same here. Had a couple of minor cuts, maybe a prick from a piece of sharp wood that's it. (knock on wood....) Haven't had a shot in over ten years. Hate needles.
The only time I ever got hurt by a nail, it went right through the sole of the shoe I was wearing, so I recommend the shots for everybody. You're going to be less careful about what you step on when you're wearing shoes.
I stepped on some jagged, rusty rebar about a year ago near the creek where my beagle was taking a drink. Got a tetanus shot then. I don't ever have a problem when I am on a trail. The rebar was within some grass. Oh...yeah....I stepped on a limb with large thorns on the trail two years ago and the thorn went all the way into my arch. It was bloody for a while, but I've had lots worse wounds skateboarding. I just reinterpret the pain....LOL!!!
My last tetanus shot was in 1978. Since then i've had one significant cut, one nail, and several thorns. Foot injuries seem to heal really quickly and without trace. If they don't, get your blood sugar levels checked!
Vaccines are dangerous. I stay a long way from them. If you knew what was in those vaccines and what they do to your body you would never get another vaccine again either. It is not being afraid but is being smart.
I always try to stay up to date on all my shots, mainly for work. But it definitely helps when going barefoot!
