Scot band...The BEGGARS OPERA ...1971 album (waters of change) is really good & adventurous ... AMON DUUL 2 (from south Germany) ...and their...Yeti lp from 1970 or Wolf City from 1972...are krautrock classic CAPTAIN BEYOND is a supergroup! their 1st album (1972) is considered as their best... their 2nd (1973) is considered as bein' good stuff... but better avoid the 3rd and last ...with a very different line-up and average music (1977) CAMEL - THIN LIZZY's - and UFO all 1977 albums are considered as well as rock classics (it's no punk style stuff)...but in different musical styles...
tommy smothers....was in the room in montreal when lennon did his bed-in for peace op...you said musicians but then you listed bands....not all the members of those bands were hippy like
It's a deviant sort of answer ...but serious you're smarter than i thought... there is a Charles Manson/ Dennis Wilson fantastic co-written song ...and it's into the 20/20 Beach boys 1969 album... and this song...is really one of the best kept secret & song of the late 60s beach boys... here is the link to this song... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cmtM8PaZgag"]"Never Learn Not to Love" by The Beach Boys - Charles Manson song - YouTube
That's right Aerianne----definitely Canned Heat---I was surprised that was missing, and Blue Cheer-----how could anyone forget a band with a name inspired by the chemist who supplied all the acid to Haight Ashbury? And Janis Joplin was mentioned but what about Big Brother and the Holding Company---they were a Haight Ashbury band that more or less discovered/created Janis.
Manson wrote the song, it was not co-written. Wilson changed one lyric from "Cease to exist" to "cease to resist".........that's it. And it was released in '68 as the B side of the single, "Bluebirds over the mountain."
Velvet Underground was an alternative to hippie music in the '60's. But it's only first two "dark" albums - The Velvet Underground & Nico and White Light/White Heat. Their later albums were more "groovy" and softly.
