Anyone here played it or it's predecessor Demon Souls?

One of the hardest games I remember playing but at 10 hours in I am finally getting some decent equipment which helps. Japanese games tend to be more difficult, but this one is tough even by their standards. But somehow the difficulty motivates me to continue. Like "fuck you I will beat you!".

YES!!! the souls series are my favourite games by far. Games these days are more like interactive movies than games. They make it extremely hard to fail and offer the player no real challenge. As a younger kid I loved games like that but as I get older I find it almost mind numbing how dumbed down everything is. It's like playing hide and go seek in an empty room.

Dark Souls is designed for players to die over and over. We've been tricked into thinking this is a bad thing, when it isn't a bad thing at all. With each death the player LEARNS how the game works and how to react to it next time. You never fail you only become better at the game. Retro games are notorious for using the same tactics. Because of the difficulty and steep learning curve it gives players an unmatched sense of accomplishment when they make even the smallest progress.

They are making a sequel too, but the original designer won't be part of it.
