Are you kidding? My Dad lived in Bath and I used to visit him a lot before he passed on...I got the impression Bath was hippie central.Don't know if there are any hippies from Bath on Hip Forums though...Maybe you should go into town more and hang out.

    hey,
aw sorry to hear that.. em to be honest I haven't seen many around.. I'm up for meeting people and not sure Bath is the best place to stay. I'm living near here at the mo, just need to figure out where to go. Was thinking about Brighton?

Yes Brighton is pretty good for the hippie scene from what I gather.

I already guessed it was just a matter of waiting before a joke about the town name and hippies would appear :p

    Hi Sarah
Sadly Bath is no longer the hip alternativie melting pot it used to be. It has always been uber-posh and gentrified of course, but when I used to hang out there in the 80's there was a real buzz of alternative in the city, generally based around Walcot Street. Sadly this has mostly been cleaned up now and a lot of the old traders and haunts are gone. The Hat And Feather, a notorious pub is shut. A few second hand clothers and record stores remain a tthe the top of the street. I think alternative types/hippies came and went, some live in trailers in the woods outside of Bath, some cleaned up and went straight, some, like me moved out and sit grumbling about what a great place it used to be! More hippies in Frome, near Bath which is a much more thriving place artistically. Brighton used to be, but againthat was a while ago. I just do not think that in Britain there is anywhere that really is a true funky place like Portland for example.
Actually we have a portland inthe UK and while interesting geographically is pretty weird culturally!

Yes indeed, it was a famous place, full of good people, and good music. Sadly, as often happens it degenerated into a bit of a hard drug haunt and there were a couple of rival gangs/teams that worked it. It all went tits up one day when one of the gangs came in weilding a machete and going crazy. At his point, local concerned citizens who had already expressed doubts about the place crowed triumphantly, Told yo so, and it was shut soon after. Shame, I would rather have the possibility of an occasional axe weilding maniac than yet another shite pub full of squeaky clean teenagers drink Jeigerbombs, with crap music in the background and a giant TV screen with skysports playing.
