i buy a god damn fuckin Blackseeds album to give to my sister for christmas (she lives in australia)

and i get the fuckin disc home and its not even a CD its a "copy controlled" WTF is a "Copy Controlled" you might ask yourself.

well a copy controlled is not allowed to be called a CD even though it looks like a CD, plays like a cd (on most cd players), and sounds like a CD. why?

well because the inventors of CDs (philips) took the inventors of "Copy Controlled Cds" to court and made them not call it a cd because it fucks over consumers.

basicly they do one of two things to make a "copy controlled" they put on a degrading surface layer onto the cd so that after 1-2 years the CD is unreadable in CD players, and is supposedly never readable in computer CD players (music CD players function slightly differently to computer ones)

the other way they do it is by introducing skipped/unwritten areas on the disc. a music cd player will play them fine as it ignores the skipped bits (anti-skip protection, oversampling...) but a computer drive is way more sensitive and will produce skiping noises in the song (theoretically)

it also means that cheap and old CD players will often skip, and the back of the case in tiny tiny writting that needs a magnifying glass says this Grrr.

the funny thing is, I CAN COPY THE DISC. the disc plays fine in my computer and produces perfect copys (i play all my music from my computer, i never share it with friends, but hate using the cd especially when my computer has a 5.1 channel sound system)

so what does this end up doing? it just pissed me off coz i really don't want to support a format which purposfully puts in errors to a product i paid for. why do i want to own somthing which is flawed and might fuck up in a year or two? i don't at all.

i have sent an e-mail to the black seeds themselves saying how pissed off i am, i really really hope they reply to me. it would be interesting to know their stance on it.

I love the black seeds. I just think that the music industry sucks. I think its really sad that they are unfortunately players in an industry that sucks all the life and spirit out of music.

Haha ohhh that sucks man! I thought you were guna give us an ear bashing about the Black Seeds which are a great band.

I always thought that copy control means that you cant share the song to so many computers but meh, i duno. That sounds fucked up to me.

well theoretically the system was created to stop people using the discs on their computers. however within minutes of any protection format coming out the computer geeks have found a way to overcome it.

so in the end it just hurts to consumer.

what would earn them more money and also stop/slow piracy is sell CD's fo $10 each. i mean seriously they would sell way more than 3x the number of CD's infact i would probably buy a CD a week. rather than the current 1 CD every 2-3 months.

the are just such retards. its exactly the same as when records were $1 and people stoped buying them, then they droped them to 33cents and sale skyrocketed. this was decades ago and they havn't learnt the lesson again.

Grrrrrrr. this makes me want to pirate stuff, just to piss them off for pissing on me.

don't buy any disc with this label on it.

this is what they use instead of the CD logo. this informs us that its a copy-controled disc.

use your wallets to tell them its not acceptable.

yeah, it fucking sucks. I can't live without the black seeds albums...but i don't want to support that shite.

lets hope they play live again soon, so we can get non cd/copy controlled fix.

well i emailed them and the manager replaied :D

basicly they are another innocent party to it, but didn't really know it was happening. so i sent them all the info they need to make the choice to tell EMI to fuck themselves. ;)

blackseeds are ok, but i will not buy their music as long as their discs have this crapola technology.

look at all EMI discs people

Oh fuck I've got one with that logo an EMI one so what its going to be shit in a couple of years? it copyed fine when I got it as a friend wanted but couldn't afford it so it was dubbed for her that was a year ago its still fine now, bastards I don't blame Phillips for making them use that logo then they're a great product wouldn't want them associated with that, I love their stereos :D

i researched this particular type of copy protection, and luckily if treated 100% well the CD will not stuff up.

however because of how they do the copy protection. they destory philips and sony's intentional error protection methods in CD's

i.e. small scrathes in a CD will not cause and skipping (only major ones will)

however with the copy controlled one, any scratch nomatter how small has a high chance of creating a skip. so if you use your original disc lots you will get major skips after a while (as discs get scratched over time)

    that is basicly the problem.

otherwise the technology is useless. it does NOT protect EMI from piracy (as we have proven)
