Thanks. I'd never heard of those 'powerful interest groups'. It was interesting to read their websites, and what they do.
"Marijuana remains a leading reason kids are in treatment today, and is a leading cause of car crashes among impaired individuals – surpassing alcohol in many states. Its abuse is directly linked to mental illness and IQ deterioration. The negative impacts of legalization of marijuana are substantial." These are outright lies. Wow. Nixon commisioned a study on the effects of THC all the way back in the late sixties and the results were overwhelmingly benign; but Nixon, having not gotten what he expected or wanted, literally just threw the study in the trash and went ahead with his scheduling system, which is the one they refer to in that letter, and put marijuana right up there at the top tier, which is belligerent and ridiculous; but Nixon was, despite his protestation, very much a crook. Regardless, however, of the positive or negative effects of drug use, it seems strange to me that they should think prohibition could solve the problem of addiction or deter people from doing narcotics in the first place. Especially in the ghetto, where any black market item is automatically going to draw great amounts of attention, seeing as it is a much more viable option for making a living than many of the other so-called opportunites people have in this country, especially in today's economy. It's pretty conspicuous, indeed.
well yeah, i think it makes sense that you're more likely to get hassled for doing drugs if you let the hasslers know that you're doing drugs.
