For the last couple of years I've been really annoyed by Christmas--I just see it as one big fraud. I'm not religious, but it really bothers me that the holiday has turned into such a blatant marketing tool for corporations. It's all buy buy buy and that really just makes me sick. I for one am glad that it's over for the time being.
it was nice being with all the kids this year for christmas, but glad it's over--well at least the urge to spend money is over. Now I can start saving $$$ again.
I'm happy that I don't have to hear the poor belly-achers who whine every year about how crass and commercial the holiday has become. http://www.rienzihills.com/ChristmasSing/beginningtolook.htm Here's a song that's been around for a long long time... so the commercialism is NOTHING new !
I'm not happy it's over but I'm not sad either. It's nice to have a relaxing day at home with my husband today though.
It's only as comercial as you make it, you don't need to go out and buy presents if you don't want to. for me, christmas is still going on for another week We always have freinds and family visiting, and comming over for dinner.
exactly. people that bitch about the commercialzation of christmas are stupid. xmas is what you make it. just that.
always complaining about something, not necesarily you, but damn so much complaints. maybe the holiday season seems so commercial is because you make it that way, they are righ tyou dont have to buy things for others, although giving does feel good most of the time.
i definetly am. this has turned out to be one of the most depressing months of my life does that mean im an adult now?
Well of course people have been giving one another presents on Christmas for a very long time, but there's a slight difference between that and what's going on now with crass commercialism. Christmas is all about corporations--they've hijacked what was once a religious holiday of peace and joy and turned into a celebration of greed and materialism. People can deny it all they want, or make lame-ass statements like "Christmas is what you make it" but it ultimately doesn't change the fact that fundamental meaning behind Christmas has been changed for the worse.
The meaning has changed for some, not for me. Just because corporations make big bucks this season dosn't change the meaning of the holiday for me. And why blame the corporations in the first place? Nobody is forcing anybody to buy anything, if people want to go out and buy loads of presents for their loved ones what's wrong with that? I think that Christmas means somthing different for everybody, I'm not a practising christian, and I celebrate the holiday, just so I can be with my friends and family. Christmas stopped being a purely christian holiday a looong time ago.
No, I guess nobody's "forced" to buy anything, but many people are induced into believing that they are obligated into giving gifts at this time of year, and corporations exploit this by marketing. Marketing is essentially propaganda, and most people who are exposed to propaganda to some extent have their lives altered by it.
me!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so glad it's over and I will be even more happy when new years is over...I like normailty and freak when my routine is broken, I can't handle it
I'm happy it's over. All the shopping, wrapping, baking, parties and so on tires me out! Today I'm finally able to relax a bit. The kids are occupied with their toys so I have some "me" time...just sittin' here listenin' to my new Joni Mitchell CD and veggin'.
