In the sixties nobody wanted to bring back a bygone era, ever. And we're still heading for a future ... but it's your turn now, as this generation will be heading for the big journey. What will you tell your own kids when they daydream about bringing back the amazing, magical year 2013 ? Now is the only time to make a difference ... what a wonderful chance.
I think I've heard Bob Dylan wishing he could bring back or live in the late 1920 or so People were much less hasty and everyone had better manners etc. etc. Same old, same old it seems  Romanticizing an era you love and wish you lived in yourself is probably something of all times!
Wish we could bring back the 60s. If you want to bring back the sixties, then you should just stand next to me, and you'd get a righteous contact high. You'd be floating through space in the gray fog ocean chilled fresh air breeze of the Haight-Ashbury. Your skin would tingle with the acid electricity. Excitement would be your middle name, and your last and your first. You'd meet new and interesting fiends everywhere that you turned. Life would be beyond adventure. It would be real! People who try to talk about today, haven't a clue. Today there is only cubicles within a police state, who tells you freedom, while they make even more laws, and record everything that you put on the Internet and every phone call that you have, onto their massive systems, and you are suppose to pretend that it isn't happening. Today SUCKS. And there is NO FUN. Delude yourself about today. That's exactly what they want. Suckers! Is was at first the air plane age, then it was the jet age, then is was the space age. 50s turned into 60s. This was a “one time only” in the history of the whole planet, and of all time, of all mankind. Once! In the whole universe. And there was Love. And there was freedom. And there was sex. And there was new mind expanding drugs. And there was new meaningful music. And there was people dancing freely. And there was new ideas. And there was people going way out of their way to seek new ways of living their lives. And there was Experimentation Everywhere. There was tribal and there was community, there was a sense of belonging and of purpose. There were sisters and brothers. There were people together. Not today. Where? Show me and I’ll be the first one there. The 60s? I only wish that you could have knew. Picture any three music groups that you can think to name from the sixties, and seeing them live in a small hall for only $3.00 or maybe $3.50. Yes, three of them in one show for that price. Any Friday and Saturday night, two shows a night. And idf you went to the early show, then you could probably stay for the second show. That's 6 performances! Everyone who was at Woodstock was exposed to only 3 percent of all of the bands that I am talking about. Picture that! I double dare you. Picture meeting girls or guys and falling in Love! Easily. Picture the 60s. Love, Scorpio Kenny © 2013 Scorpio Kenny — All rights reserved. World rights reserved.
i wanted to go for this years one but i looked on here in the rainbow section and on their website but i couldnt find a definite place or time it would be. i heard different states, and that no one knows where it is. shame, caus i would have gone!
I'd like to start off by saying that I really like this thread. After reading Woodstock Revisited I started fantasizing about what it would be like to live in the 60's myself. Apparently, from what I've read, people were friendlier back then so you could actually hitch hike safely. You just held out your thumb and a person who looked like you would pick you up, pass you a peace pipe, and take you as far as they possibly could. An ounze of cannabis back in those days would only cost you a mere $15 bones. How cool is that!:2thumbsup: I would have loved attending Woodstock where people just started sharing everything and anything that they had. The idea of charging money for anything got thrown out the window. The music from that decade was also meaningful & great.:guitarist: I guess it isn't so bad today...Weed is severly expensive now a days but at least we have dank strains instead of just reggie. I'd still kill to pay $15 bones an ounce though no questions asked! The music today isn't as bad as people make it out to be. Just turn off the radio and actually dig for something you can dig! FUCK THE RADIO! I don't know much about modern music festivals since I never have money to go but The Red Dirt Ball, The Flute Festival, and The Blues Ball in Medicine Park were all free and I always seem to run into chill hippies when I go to one of those shows and its a pretty town with a nice swimming hole you can relax and keep cool in. Weeds still illegal in Oklahoma but there's spots in Medicine Park where you can blaze undetected of course:sifone:. Dude, I so can't wait till summer time now so that I can go to more free concerts and meet cool people! Here's a video from Park Stomp 2012 in Medicine Park. Enjoy ! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ImxiDt92erc"]Parkstomp 2012 - Medicine Park, OK - YouTube
You don't have to bring anything back because nothing's ever changed. It's the same old fight for what is pure and true in humanity. Do you think that's gone away? It'll never go away and we'll never lose.
Scorpio kenny, the '60s incarnate! Who you callin' a sucker? :biker: How profound ie; shooting speed and living with Hepatitis, Stds... shitting and pissing in the streets... ANY group from the 60's?....uh-huh, riiight Picture living with liver failure from STD's and Hepatitis Nobody likes a downer sermon from a hippie chump on the '60s mountain, please come the fuck down to where the rest of us are getting on with the NOW!
Maybe you're in the wrong place if all that you have to contribute is to put down the sixties. Go and start your own thread named: I'm going to run my mouth. By the What 8 post New person, putting other people down is against the rules in these forums. Get It? You can get yourself BANned.
Maybe I am. How the F__ would you know? Actually I never left. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." LOL Anyone who blindly buys into the system, and stays there. Anyone who never asks any questions. People with closed minds. I cry for them always. Yes, actually that was exceedingly profound. How astute of you. Do you shoot speed? I never did. I never did any needles, and neither did 99% of the hippies in the sixties. Comparatively few people did speed. The 60's was widely known for pot and acid, not speed. So, I don't know why you are obsessed with Speed, needles, and Hepatitis. That's your trip. Not mind. Everyone in the sixties had heard the song, "Amphetamine Annie" by the Canned Heat, Speed Kills How often do you or anybody catch an STD? Really. Get real. STDs??? Back then there was ONLY Clap, and Syph, both were curable with one week's worth of antibiotic and abstinence. All better. All gone. Now go back outside and play. And maybe you could get crab lice or scabies, if you where in the wrong place. Maybe. But Probably not. People mostly get Hepatitis from needles. Pot, Hash and Acid don't require needles. I'll concede that maybe you just didn't know that. Give you the benefit of the doubt. Who does that? Nobody that I ever knew. Do you just make these things up? And why would you? Go on-line and view any 60s San Francisco rock posters. YES. Any Groups. $2.50, $3.00 or $3.50. Two shows per night, every Fri. and Sat. night. Go look. I was at the shows! Who are you? I sure don't know WTF you're talking about. Obviously you don't either. I personally know tons of people from the 60's and none that I know of have liver failure, most hippies didn't even drink. They smoked weed. Don't have STDs. And out of hundreds of people, I know of three with Hep. Thanks for informing all of the people, on the Internet, with your truthful wisdom and knowledge. Thank you. It was a VERY upper sermon. Thank you very much. Not a downer. If you wish to call it a sermon, then do so. The only person with any downer going on, is the negative comments guy. Keep going. Keep showing off. No one cares. Please note that this area of these forums is titled "Hippie" That being the case, what would make you think that anyone who is HERE might actually be "Down", or even vaguely consider themselves to be included with you as being "…the rest of us". I do know some of these folks here, and I don't think that they would consider themselves as being, "…down to where the rest of us are". I wish you good luck with that one. Oh, so you want to bring me down to that level. No way. I feel very sorry for those who only see and know what they want to. Why in the world would I wish to sink down to that level. All that you have talked about, so far, is shit and diseases in your head space level. It must be Hell, there. I'm in Heaven, myself. I'll stay in my wide open mind and heart. I live a really fine lifestyle. I've lived an adventurous life. Packed full of romance. I'm a man of independent means, and with where-with-all. I'm very much in love with a very smart and very beautiful women who is in fact 12 years younger that I am. She owns her own company. I live in a great place with a heated pool, and it's nice and warn in the winter, while others are in 3 feet of freezing snow. The Sun is out and the birds are chirping, and I have a great many very close, good friends in my life. What have you made of your life? Especially to have such a sour nature. Must be Really cool, and admirable. You can be Gris for the Mill. You're the one who stated, "…come the fuck down…" :sunny:
Gongshaman, Do Not come into the Hippie's Zoo to poke at the Bears, or I will open their cage and let them out.. It wont be pretty either, with all the speed they do and you know they carry hep C and every STD imaginable. Next time I hear of you bashing HIPPIES in my Zoo You will wish you were never given a tongue. Please use the backdoor to make your escape bc We don't want anyone to see you leaving here and think you're one of us, cuz you aint. Zoo Keeper
You mean besides working on three different occasions for the Webmaster (and he's a punkrock drummer) in the communications department on the 8th floor of 11 Wall Street, back in like 1999? Is that what you mean? Like what do I think? I am against the banks committing fraud and stealing everybody's money and and everybody's old age pension funds. I'm against Gitner's November decision to have the Fed pay B of A 60 million each month until ALL of B of A's worthless paper, mortgage (no longer) backed securities are bought up. So, that B of A is no longer holding the bag, but the U.S. Tax payers are owning all of that worthless pager. I think that all of the people who ran the banks and the brokerage banks should be in prison for life and all of the money forfeit and all of the companies closed down. I think that new companies should be started and that everyone should boycott all of the old ones. That's what we all did in 1970 in the nationwide student strikes. Everybody closed there B of A bank accounts, and got the student loans refinanced over to different banks. If you mean the sit-in protests on the streets, they made their point in the first week. After that it was just old, and they started to make enemies, to loose the supporter that they had. They should have moved over to an action, with boycotts and web actions. BTW, 11 Wall Street is the New York Stock Exchange. People should get it that the stock Exchange is merely an auction house. It's like Craigslist.org. What I mean is that the auction house did not cause the problem. The brokerage banks and the mortgage banks caused the problems. So, right back at you. What do you think?
I wasn't really asking what you thought about the movement. I was curious if you were down on the streets or in anyway involved. I'm asking because, frankly, you're coming off way more condescending than perhaps you intend. Most of us were condescending to the OP because...well, they're probably a troll. There are tons of movements and great communities out there today, but to know about them and how the people there act and how awsome things can be out there, you gotta be out and involved with them. I can't know what you're participating in, unless I ask. In touting the 60's so strongly, you've managed to present yourself as writing off the good stuff that's going on today. Just because some people were born at a different time than others, really shouldn't be a reason to break out the 'Hippier Than Thou' card. If you could talk about the greatness of the 60's without putting down everyone else or tooting your own horn, I and others, probably wouldn't have had a single issue with what you've said. You have a point of view, because you were there. We have a different point of view of the 'now' because that's where we are. Not much anybody can do about that but try and understand each other. The 60's isn't the only era with 'one time only' experiences. The world is so big and awesome and people are out there living it in and having a great time and making a difference. This shouldn't be something that one would want to see as just relegated to an era gone by! This is why the 'live in the now' is being spouted and touted. Life is great! Lets grab it by the balls and live the shit outta it!!
Then you need to come to my neck of the woods. This still exists. My friends are all an amazing community of musicians and artists and just plain ol' fun, open minded people living awesome lives. There is a definite sense of community. I've been aware that my group is pretty special for a long time but we can't be that unique. If we exist that means there are other groups out there creating their own culture and building a sense of community as well. Plus there are burning man communities all over the place. It was a bigger community in the 60s for sure, maybe not so fragmented. But the spirit of the 60s still lives and really, the spirit does not belong strictly to the 60s. Freedom and song and dance and self expression have existed in various cultures around the world since the beginning of time.
Meliai, So, I have the van warming up and all my stuff in it. Where do you live? I'll pick Manservant Hecubus up along the way. We'll be right over.
I wrote what I wrote with the tenor that I wrote it, simply because the OP had written a simple positive question, and from what I had read of the replies, half of them were totally negative, and unnecessary put downs, and off topic. As the topic is "Can we bring back the 60s?" Nobody had asked about "the Now". That's on some other thread.
