Hey, so this question is specifically directed to those who arre expert computer users. I am not. I use Google chrome and it was perfectly working until 3 or 4 days ago when I suddenly realzied that it is no long doing the spell check. I searched on Google and came to know where this option was and checked it. It was fine and the spell checker was enabled already. I disabled and enabled again but the problem persists. Please help me as this is killing me.
This has been an ongoing problem for the last few months... One of the early fixes was to make sure that the "Use a web service to help resolve spelling errors" box is not checked in your settings. That fixed it for me but it isn't working for everyone. They say they are trying to fix it but I think they are making things worse.
OMG, what I get from your post is that its a worldwide issue. Right? So I don't need to be upset about it? Ah.....you made my life easier.
In google chrome there is a help button where you can report a problem. Sometimes when you download things or update things including the browser, it will change your settings in your browser for instance your search engine changes, more adds appear, things are added to your browser and settings change. Tyrsonwoods explains what is going on well but I have chrome and do not have any issues with my spell check. In the menu at the upper right side go to settings, click on advanced settings and then click on spell check to make sure your browser still has it activated.
Thanks so much for your advice. I have made sure that this spell check is on there in the browser settings but still not working most probably due to what "Tyrsonwoods" mentioned.
Try setting it to not spell check and restart the browser. Then go in and set it to enable spell check remembering to not use a web service to assist spell check and see if anything changes. Sort of a reboot of the chrome browser. I have no idea if that will change anything but it's a simple diagnostic tool.
Oh, I tried this too but still it didn't work. I am so much obsessed with this issue now, its kind of killing me.
Having the same situation here too.. I thought it was me.. lol glad to know it wasn't my bad this time
Not alone but not everybody has this problem. That's why it's so hard for google to figure out what's causing it. It started with a version update end of last year but there's no way to not get the auto update or go back several updates... Weird
^ Oh, alright. That is why, it is taking so much time to fix it. I won't be surprised if this could be as a result of some virus introduced by some f******.
Google Chrome App... Spellcheck extension No idea how well this works, but it's supposed to be a free spellcheck extension for Chrome. So far the built in one is still working on this system and none of my other systems are running anymore due to fire damage. Better than no spellcheck...
You have been such a help. Thanks so much, I tried this but it wasn't fun and not convenient to use. It requires you to copy text and check spellings, so its hectic. Any update from Google's technical staff on this?
They say they are working on it... Doesn't mean that they are. Problem is it still works for the majority of users. Mine still works on this system, it was working on all my other systems too, before the fire took them out.
So finally, I become the happiest person on the planet again since this spell checker has been resolved by Google.
